WC Gold medal game vs. WC Gold medal game? Oh wait that hasn't happened yet.

But: 2015 WWC final against Japan= 26.7 million viewers between Fox and Telemundo.

2014 MWC game against Portugal= 24.7 million on ESPN and Univision. The largest metered viewership for a single USMNT game.

2014 MWC Final between Germany and Argentina= 26.5 million on ABC and Univision.

Great, so in one instance...a title game the women beat the men's viewership. In the US only. Wonder how it compares on the WW level? Which is what drives more revenue.

Unfortunately for the women that only accounts for about 3-5% of the games for a given year and even less in a world cup cycle, the men draw much higher ratings for their friendlies, qualifiers, and likely group play games in the WC.

So, a Men's WC group stage match was only 2 million short of the the Women's final. I'm actually surprised that the Women has more viewers, even for their final.

I'm all for the uswnt getting paid what they're worth for what they bring in. Same goes for the men. I'm assuming that's what the current payscales are calculated to reflect.

The women shouldn't be making the same amount as the men just because they're women and play the same sport. It should all be about the revenue generated, and then apply an equal formula for both men's and women's team. If the girls don't bring in as much money, they get paid less than the men and vice versa.

It shouldn't be though. There are more factors at play.

I have no doubt that a deep run by the USMNT in a World Cup would far exceed the 2015 USWNT viewership numbers. However, they haven't yet. Until they do, things are uneven. Which is why the WNT players will bring their case to court if US Soccer refuses to end the moratorium on CBA talks.

Yeah, but two matches doesn't tell even close to the whole story.

At some point yall are going to realize the on field success has very little to do with the pay, right?

It's like they don't understand that there is so much more revenue on the men's side. I'm all for equal pay, but they aren't providing an equal service.
I assume the men bring in more in attendance/ticket sales, and all of that jazz as well as TV ratings.

Assuming that's correct, then of course the men make more. And if I'm wrong, maybe they do have a case.

Correct.

Outside of womens WC years the attendance for mens games is double that of womens per game. Also tickets are far more expensive for mens games.

Outside a world cup final the men have far better tv ratings. This inlcudes stuff like friendlies and qualifying game along with stuff like the gold cup. Just because the women got 26m watching a singular game doesn't men they should get the same money as men. For 99% of the game pool the men far out draw women on TV

You don't figure profitability without paying your employees.
Well sure, but you can determine how much money there is to pay players after you've figured the rest of your expenses. You can't act like the revenue of the WC is the end all, be all. For instance, I'm sure the WC expenses are much cheaper when the women play in Canada as opposed to the men in Brazil.

I'm not arguing that the women are more profitable on an annual basis, but in order for their suit to have merit they'll need to prove they're underpaid as a percentage of profit before salary expenses. Even then, I don't have much sympathy if they negotiated a bad deal in their CBA.

The USWNT and USMNT are paid under completely different systems. Players that make the USWNT have a contract that guarantees what they will earn and how many games they will play in, the players on the USMNT have no such guarantee for pay or even staying on the team. If the USMNT coarch says the player has to go, that player is out of luck. Also, the players for the USMNT recieve the overwhelming majority of their pay from their home club, what they get for being on the USMNT is a bonus that isn't even guaranteed. This whole suit is bullshite and anyone who thinks these players have a case is delusional. They will get a settlement if they are lucky, if they persist then these 5 risk damaging the women's professional club league.

I'm with you, Rummy.

Bunch of dipshits in this thread.

We'll see how the numbers stack up over the next few years with all the "success" the men's team is having of late.

ETA:

People from other countries are paying to watch THEIR team beat USA.

Which is why they lose 8-2 to a boys U17 national team.
