Louisiana is a socially conservative state with populist economics.

Its the worst of all worlds. The only good thing about it is you can shoot people when they frick with you.

This.

There is zero industry in LA and the population is massively uneducated.

You can’t bring in industry with that population.

Agreed and the DUI laws do not help future employees obtain employment. Only state Ive ever seen where folks have 6 DWI's.

It’s a superiority complex they have. They’re self-absorbed, materialistic, and short-tempered.

On the bright side, LA's shitty job market and economy do deter invaders from flooding in here.

Had to get back south during Covid in 2020 and made the move to Charleston because it’s a cleaner, nicer New Orleans. And then the HUGE migration of rich older folks and successful young professionals moved down in waves in 2021 and 2022. Seems to be slowing down a bit but I try to be nice to the transplants because a good number of them are “conservative” surprisingly, but they’re just not welcoming at all. The exact type of people I was trying to distance myself from in DC although most of those crazies were liberals who wanted the whole DMV locked down. But maybe I’m just becoming more and more of an a-hole as well in my 30s. There’s also this whole movement in Charleston right now where everyone my age thinks they’re in Southern Charm and want to turn it into a Miami scene with Republic, the Wonderer (still not sure how this place is in business, but it’s fun for a concert), and rumors of bringing a Soho house down here. Don’t get me wrong, I love it here and 90% of the people are awesome but that 10% think they are so much more important than they really are. Was running with that group a good bit when I moved down here and I’m thinking holy shite this is the same group of folks I was trying to leave behind in DC. My old apt complex might as well been a giant Real World complex. Rant [OFF] just praying this migration slows down. Also sort of pissed that I didn’t buy when I got down here and the housing is approaching DC levels now

How is this possible? Republicans have a super majority. That's supposed to fix everything.

Big R republicans are not fiscally conservative. We have socially conservative, fiscally progressive R’s in this state and it’s why we are so fricked.

The only real industries in Louisiana are trades, service, oil, government and medical. You aren’t getting wealthy in any of those except medical (doctors). Unless you own a small business, Louisiana is terrible for building a career.

I agree, but my statement was nothing about getting a job in Louisiana.

Im actually anti getting a job in Louisiana, move to Texas and get real experience, money etc. Tell mom and dad they can move too, dont be scared.

All the Yankees are coming to South Carolina and ruining the state.

It was bad enough when they destroyed the low country but the bastards have discovered the midlands and the upstate. It is worse than the Yankees in south Florida also, at least they had the money to make it to lands end. The invaders of South Carolina were low wage employees in New Jersey and act like such when they get to North Augusta. Charleston was ruined years ago but Aiken and Greenville and points in between are not far behind.

Louisiana's the only southeastern state losing people. Not a good look.

I wonder what the impact is from losing land and insurance premiums being higher than a giraffe's arse? I know that the "football field a minute" land loss is overblown and wasn't really land to begin with but some of the low lying areas that were inhabitable say in the 1950s are no longer habitable, right? Coupled with insurance rates that would bankrupt a third world nation and it makes sense that folks are leaving and doing so right fast.

Not sure about this. Grand isle has forever been in danger of losing ground yet is still the same size today as it was 100 years ago.

I think it’s much more of the following:

shite public schools making it damn near a requirement to go to private or special/proven charter for an acceptable education in many metro areas

Very high crime in the 3 largest metro areas

Personal injury lawyers looking to sue for everything to and anything

Corrupt judicial systems

Over staffed, over involved political bureaucrats in everything this state has

Just a lot of negative for white collar jobs not associated with energy

Louisiana wants government to be its biggest employer. That should tell you all you need to know.

Big companies have come in and setup shop at a premium away from their white-collar employees. All the company shot callers are in Houston/Dallas for the most part. Also, most of these fellas are very intelligent and don't give two shits about Louisiana its people or environment, just profit margins.

All parish level deals are made by the Parish Administrator. The deals brokered by these guys and gals are normally to another known family in said parish. I doubt any real "bids" get looked at, ever. If they were offered a better deal in many cases they would shoot it down to stay within the good ole boy network.

There are items the parish closest to Beaumont is paying for that is costing its parish in excess of 40-50K per year for no other reason than "3 people can't get this because they don't have technology". This is not a joke. Id be willing to bet the unnecessary spend is in excess of $250K over the last 7 years.

Also, if you want to cry and then move, please for the love of God get yall's hands on the actual Payroll data at any parish in the state but I'd focus on the ones just in South Louisiana. The pay scale hoodwinks the public because while they explain the levels they don't tell who is at what level meaning you can have a person with a GED making $44 as a Director somewhere in your parish that you know is not qualified for the job.

Louisiana also gave out raises last year, statewide, to all parishes and its workers to keep up with the other states that they cannot compete with.

Super geniuses running the asylum.

You are fricked because you don't use the best person available, you use your uncles son instead of finding the best. This turns off others and they leave.

Louisiana fricks itself so hard and so often it doesnt even have to push to shite anymore.

Can't speak for the Louisiana suburbs but to me St. Tammany Parrish and the Mandeville/Covington area in particular is nice. I have family that lives there and I like that area a lot. I don't know how much of St Tammany's growth is due to people outside the state or from other parts of the state or across the lake in New Orleans moving there but it has bucked the trend of most Louisiana parishes as a fast growing area relatively speaking.

Mandeville is similar in some way to the Eastern Shore here in Alabama. To me it's quite similar in ways to Daphne, AL with a little bit of Fairhope mixed in except smaller

Are Vestavia Hills (I have one kid living here), Mountain Brook (I have 1 kid living here), Crestline, Homewood in Jefferson County?

Seems like Mississippi has been unable to break 3 million in the census. It has just been stuck growth wise the past 4 or 5 decades.

Western MS, along the River, has had substantial population declines. No one wants to move to Jefferson or Humphreys County.
