In my area, amazon has figured out how to hire just anyone with a car to deliver their packages. UPS hasn't delivered one of their packages in at least 2 months.

UPS has lost a lot of business from Amazon. They actually may be over-staffed or they want their stock price to go up and cutting labor always raises your stock price.

UPS is always my last resort when I ship something. I prefer the post office myself.

Me too and it ain't close. Never had an issue with the USPS. Prices are competitive and they do what they say they will do.

Bruh I could walk blindfolded into a job with comparable salary & benefits right now. It’s only people without skills struggling to find jobs

They’re literally commercial drivers…you know, a field with a large shortage.

I wasn't trying to crap on the workers. I worked there in college.

But giving me a $150K to go away is a hell of a lot better than me earning over the course of a year.

I'd tell the union to F off. You are not going to use my money to sue the company offering me that buyout.

The OP is a liar. They are not being offered $150K to quit. And the Ruters article that is linked does not mention the $150K. I looked up a few sources, and the offer is $1,800 per year of service, with a minimum buy-out of $10,000. Did not anyone seeing this amount automatically think that this was ridiculously high?

Wrong. That was last year's buyout. This is the second round. Check the reddit link. Plenty of ups employees confirming it.

when the amount of online ordering is continually skyrocketing --at risk of driving most brick and mortar shops out of business--- it strikes me as odd that UPS is so desperate to cut drivers?

UPS has already been in the process of drastically reducing the volume of parcels they deliver for Amazon.

LINK

I think this is where the $150K settlement came into play, it's for a totally separate claim for a diabetic driver that got fired. And the Reddit link is from a social media post showing a photograph of an email. This is pretty big news so you would think that industry publications would have a mention of this, but I have not seen them. If you have any other link that is not social media or just somebody's opinion, please post it.

So roughly. A year and a half salary? Maybe if I was there for less than 2 years maybe, but if its only worth $150k for me to leave then I would stay until they start offering more.

Carol and going public are what ruined UPS.

I got out in 2000; don't regret it at all.
