also bet the architect doesn't have deep enough pockets.

He had better be bonded before the city awarded him the job.

designers carry professional liability insurance (typically 2MM limit), they do not bond a job.
only the contractor purchases a bond if required by the contract in favor of the owner, in the amount of the contract sum

if the contract was 10MM, that’s how much the bonding company will pay to complete the project if the contractor defaults. it is not insurance nor is it an unlimited guarantee

Are you involved with the project or did you read that the structure will have to be demolished in the media?

The homeless people need somewhere to take sink showers.

The bottom line is that the building can't be salvaged and must be demolished--actually needs to be demolished sooner rather than later due to structural defects which render the building dangerously compromised for total failure.

are you the Engineer of Record? I would like to see your report on how you came to this conclusion.

so attorneys close to this are leaking information. I'm sure their superiors would love to hear about this.

As this is a public works project, the contractor by law (38:2216) had to post a performance bond for at least half of the project cost.

As well as a payment bond.

And they won’t tear the structure down. They will add steel to strengthen and don’t be surprised if structural steel columns are put in place as a permanent fix where the jacks are located.

I would hate to be a subcontractor on the project because your retainage held (5% was pointed out in a last thread-a lot of time it is 10%) will be held for a very long time now.

This is why I don’t do commercial construction although I did it for a lot of years.

I promise you the person I know is more directly involved than your second hand info from attorneys. It will be fixed. The city is only paying for the independent group to assess who’s responsible. The building will not be demolished. At worst, they will have to modify the design. At best, they will check every inch and replace the beams that are flawed.

Thanks for spreading bull shot rumors though.

Must be a 100% DBE design contract.

Hmmmmm, minority owned firms got the hold on this?

With almost everyone having internet access, who needs a library in today’s environment?

Does the City/Parish have any responsibility in this situation? Any construction done in the Parish has to be approved by the Permit Office and a Building permit issued after review of the plans and construction process. Did the City/Parish Engineers sign off on this design?
