My fiancé works for Deer Park ISD and all schools within that school district and La Port ISD are closed today and likely tomorrow b/c of this.

It’s not additives to gas...it is gas...just different grades of gasoline that blenders use these days (some more valuable than others) to give you gasoline that meets specifications wherever you are in the world.

Not a Shell facility, it’s ITC, a tank farm terminal storing gasoline blends. It is next to Shell on the ship channel

Gotcha.
So no potential for West or League City (years ago) type catastrophic failure.
West explosion still amazes me. That whole town centered around a fertilizer plant. Recipe for the disaster that happened.

They've rattled off what the tanks hold. It's a lot of additives to gas and other products. Naphtha was one of the first two tanks. Xylene I believe was the other. This morning I guess 6 more tanks went up with other chemicals.
They are all grades of gas and I believe 1 oil, but, I was joking in my statement.... play off on the 9/11 conspiracy theorists....

As of 5:30AM, the City of Deer Park has received confirmation that no air quality readings conducted in response to the Intercontinental Terminals Company (ITC) incident have exceeded action levels.

Sitting here about 5 miles from the site upwind. That cloud is just carrying and falling all over the city. You can smell it pretty strong on 225 even though they opened it. Pretty fricked situation right now

It looked like the entrance to Mordor driving westward on 10 yesterday.
I fear my neighbor is fighting that monster.

My office is off 225 & BW8. Smoke cloud is pushing right over my building.
Hearing it may be a pump seal failure..

The fence along property line is a magical barrier that reaches to the heavens and contains all bad things from escaping.

Soooo much ignorance in here! I don't even know where to start.

One of the worst outcomes in the case of a tank is if a lot of water has been sprayed into the tank (open top or floating roof). When the fuel level burns down to a point where the water begins to boil the remainder of the fuel will literally blow out. I have no idea what the situation is in any of these tanks nor what will happen since there are so many tanks involved.
In any case I can't see any situation that would lead to an explosion like fertilizer presents.

I was driving through Mobile this morning and the air from this fire was killing me. I had to switch the air conditioner in my car to recirculate to get rid of that horrible oil/gas smell. Anyone else suffering from any smoke related effects from this fire?
