Because of the tank type and product.

Admittedly, I don't deal with a lot of tankage. The product itself is certainly capable of a bleve.

I'm assuming the tankage is somehow bleve-proof? The impinging fire on the outside and what appears to be fire from vents doesn't look promising.

That tank won’t bleve...it’s an internal floating roof tank equipped with pressure vacuum vents and most likely on a land based VCU.

Is it possible to overload the vent design?

Not really...I mean there are just too many ways for a IFR and especially an EFR tank to vent for them to bleve.

Interesting. Haven't dealt with IFR.

Figured the heating on the bottom could eaisly overcome the vent area, especially when it comes to naptha.

They are officially reporting 2 tanks on fire. 1 xylene the other naphtha. It's the ITC facility off Buffalo Bayou.

Fire is in a lot worse shape than they are letting on. Wind shifted to where its blowing that shite straight into the city now too

You could see the IFR bubbling up like a damn fried egg before they killed all the live feeds.

Edit: someone seriously downvoted this? Give your reasoning

Facebook Video

Taken about 45 minutes ago.

I live about 10 miles from the plant, should be able to get some good pics in the morning.

Can they move product out of the remaining tanks? How do you stop this? There's several tanks left in that battery and 15 more immediately to the north.

Interesting side note of relevance here. There’s a push by the government to ban the primary fire fighting foams industry uses to fight fires like this. That won’t help scenarios like this.

I would assume that they can’t move product because they can’t get to the board. This is going to get worse before it gets better.

Fire probably has a hold of one of the manifolds. From the look of videos its sitting directly over their main pipe rack. And it's not exactly easy to find someone to hold onto hundreds of thousands of barrels of product.

Things are so bad now if the Facebook post above is true I would imagine they will start backing down the firefighting teams.

The only concern now is neighboring facilities. Dow has a plant next door as well as a large vopak terminal. If it really is 12 tanks, god have mercy on that area, this could be “make the news in Europe” bad.

Theres a lot of confusing posts and info out there right now. About every other person has a "husbands who is fireteam captain a1" so it's hard to filter it all. But Briscoe Cane coming out and saying that is not a good sign.

That entire area is littered with facilities. If they start having structural collapses, it's going to be an absolute shitshow. The ITC facility alone has enough tanks to create the next SuperFund site.

Eta: I'll probably be updating this thread throughout the night. Live practically up the street, wont be able to sleep much anyhow.

Would using ships out of the question? May not matter if 12 of the 15 are burning. The tanks tot the south are cutoff.
