Following WWI, the Kurds were expecting the creation of Kurdistan, an idea that many Western powers backed. However, the Treaty of Lausanne didn't allow for the creation of their own state.
Throughout the years, the Turks blamed the Kurds for various "uprisings" and treated them like shite. Sort of like a Palestinian/Israeli situation, except the Kurds eventually started to actually carry out attacks on the Turkish government here and there to push for the creation of their own land.
Now, the Turks won't even help the Kurds against ISIS. Basically, every problem the Turks have, they like to blame on the Kurds.
