Good if the military wins out and guides an election where a secular politician is victorious. The military is staunchly secular and loyal to the ideals of Mustafa Kemal.

Bad if the military loses and Edrogan stays in power.

Bad if it all crumbles into chaos and the Islamists take over (more than they already have).

According to twitter it is the police vs the military right now. If that is true then I think the military wins that firefight, and the coup will be successful.

I sure do hope they run that Erdogwan out of power. A country fighting to maintain a democracy is cerainy something to be supported and celebrated. Maybe they'll quit supporting terrorists now.

I'd be fine with a secular autocracy over Erdogan. I don't give a shite about "democracy" as some high ideal anymore. It doesn't work in that region and people need to get over it.

I'm sure the military was working on Erdogan's orders for anything to do with terrorizing the Kurds.

The wealthy, secular Istanbul elite do not want a fundamentalist country that Erdogan does. They like to drink, have fun and not where ridiculous shite.

The country bumpkins aka the fundamentalist Islamists won't like this, but frick them. They are the problem in every nation in the world whether muslim, Christian, Jewish, etc. Fundies need to be taken out of power. Religion has no place in a democratic government.

According to the dude on Sky News, PM and Erdogan called on the police to defense the government, and the Mayor of Istanbul just called on the ppl to go out and oppose the coup. So far it looks like the ppl have said

Military shutting down the broadcast as I type because police and military in a standoff in the middle of Istanbul.

Twitter is saying the PM of Turkey is requesting asylum in Germany, and Germany denied.

Nothing says "I'm in charge" like a FaceTime interview from an unnamed location.

There have been 5 coups in Turkey alone since it's been a NATO member.
