Just add this to the "BR is shite!" pile. May need to start a new stack as it's getting pretty high nowadays.

Despite what you read on this board, the BRHS area is generally safe, especially during the day.

Is this like how pitbulls are "generally safe"?

It freaks out the kids and parents, but that is the only way to drill effectively for these things and address failures in procedure, etc. School shootings are not announced in advance.

Officially fall now. Summer (of peace) is over. What do you expect?

I do see the value in it, yes. But goddamn the timing with already heightened nerves. I was already in my vehicle on the way.

I would be in your exact same headspace, brother, if I had a kid there.

Lockdown drills are sadly part of the check list just like fire and tornado drills. Fire drills are once a month and the others are different, but you likely practice 3 to 4 a year. The first one is usually announced and everyone knows so it's really not a big deal. The next ones aren't. It catches kids in hallways where teachers have to act grabbing kids and pulling them into rooms. Kids might be in the bathrooms where they have to get on a toilet and lock the door to the stall. Then the admins go around and check. They usually send a message out to parents just after it starts to make sure it's known that a drill is happening. Afterwards there are great talking points for the kids. Then you can spend time talking about self help or if they see anything weird letting grown ups know before it happens.

Thanks for the drill thread. Let us know when they're conducting a fire drill next.

The call said drill but there is apparently still confusion on campus about it. Teachers didn’t know anything about it and they usually know in advance. Who knows.

My daughter is at St Aloysius and had a drill today. Last night she was telling me about what theyre supposed to do if an intruder is on campus. Hearing her tell me all the details made me imagine the scenario and freaked me the hell out. It gives me chills just typing it.

It would have definitely saved me some grief and adrenaline stores to have gotten the call shortly after or right before it went down. It was a good 10 minutes after I heard the teacher on the phone announce they were clear to the class before the mass recorded call went out. Again, I do think its a valuable training tool but shite, let the parents know a smidge soon huh!

Which is why this probably wasn’t a drill, and more than likely the little shite someone referred to earlier who had been crying wolf recently. Or they actually verified that someone on the campus who wasn’t supposed to be there.

To me, this just feels like another example of EBR admins demonstrating their experience with having to retroactively CYA.

Until everyone blows it off as a drill.

Yep. There's been no communication to the students yet that it was a drill. If there was truly an alert and they called to tell me it was a drill, there's gonna be some goddamn explaining that needs to happen. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt right now because I'm just relieved its all clear regardless. There was a heavy police presence though and the teacher had no clue as to a drill or not.

Then, this is bullshite. Teachers get an email the week prior, it explains that there will be a lockdown drill and to keep it close to the vest. This is usually when they bring dogs into the school to practice, and want to have a good bit of time for them to work. It’s not a quick lock down, with an all clear coming within minutes after it’s announced.

Now I'm hearing they've closed the front lawn of the school. I have no idea what they mean by that. But the classrooms are no longer locked down so. I have no idea whats going on over there. Still no announcement of a drill to students

Seems like when my son was at Catholic I would get those calls on the regular. The Family Dollar in Westmoreland was always getting robbed

Apparently BRPD was notified that there was a gun on campus. I guess it turned out to be a false alarm. But still no acknowledgment from BRMHS that it wasn’t a drill.
