Just heard a news report saying “this was the type of boat that takes workers to and from rigs”

I'm going to assume its bad information until I hear otherwise.

No doubt that is some extremely snotty shite to be in out there in any size boat, much less near a structure trying to pluck someone off it. I get that and don't envy that position. But if I was the guy on the rail I'd want the skip to tell me what I needed to do for him to get my arse on his boat.

Yea I agree that is inexcusable even if they are green. This is the shite that should be made public and cause outrage instead of the BS that does.

The fact that this dude doesn't have a life jacket on tells me it must have happened pretty damn fast.

From the chatter on the radio, it sounds like a Bristow chopper was the first on scene. Not sure if it was one of their search and rescue birds or just a normal chopper that was providing eyes in the sky

It likely happen so fast the captain didn’t have time to sound the general alarm and if did not sound the general alarm the guys in their bunk rooms never had a chance and they are probably still in the boat

Were there other uscg boats on location? If it was only them and a helo, this is impossible for me to believe.

No way they don’t exhaust fuel reserves as the only boat on location while talking to people in the water with evening approaching.

My son in law is on a rig 5 miles from there. Said there were 20 foot waves and 75 mph winds. Believes those guy never knew what hit them. Still in their bunks.

On of the videos on that FB page had a captain of a boat on dock and about 1/2 way through it he tells shipmates to go wake the guys up.

Watching that is scary shite - and crazy decision making needed in the midst of the event.

Pretty sobering.

I know the National Guard here in LA has gone soft but if that is true about the CG.....it is inexcusable.

Asking for prayers in a Grand Isle, we are being told 10 men still missing, island was hit hard: We just volunteered our boat Double Down to a very close friend to assist the US Coast Guard in search and rescue, we were told 2 men still on capsized ship cannot be gotten to with size of boats there, praying our boat does before the weather comes back. Please please pray more lives are saved. My heart is so broken, the water I love so much can turn so quick. I hope my next post brings good news!! To all our friends on the island, please stay safe as more weather on way!

There were three guys hanging on last night. One had a handheld radio talking to coast guard. I will spare the guys name they were talking to out of respect for the family. But I will say this. Coast guard had the opportunity to rescue those guys last night. They failed. One of the 45 foot cg boats went in to port and refused to come back out because “they were shaken”. 2 guys more than likely lost their lives last night due to in my opinion a failure of the coast guard. I understand not putting others at risk but I’m sorry this is what you’ve trained for your whole career. You were someone’s final hope and your words to them were “just keep holding on”. Very sad situation all around.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but in the fog of crisis, stories get turned around. Remember the hundreds of people shot at the dome/MCC during the days after Katrina? Everyone knew that was true to.

This is a freaking awful, awful situation, if this indeed happened, it will absolutely come out.
