IDK if anyone knows for sure ...the ones that had the radios from what I understood had no contact after Tuesday night. And IDK if anyone knows how they actually got back in BUT it seems that the liftboat settled some .. I personally guess that they got scared with the one guy who floated away and the difficult time that the CG had rescuing the other 2 on Tuesday.

These are all assumptions based on what I've read on the FB pages.

This has been a horrific tragedy. But like the storm threads, I've learned a lot in this thread about offshore work, lift boats, etc.

So here is my question, apologies if it's stupid, I know I'm ignorant of some facts here.

The boat had three "legs" which it seems from what I've read, were "not lowered" during underway, which I would assume means they were all sticking way up in the air, above the deck.

One leg is visible in the pictures, at an angle toward the ground. I would assume (maybe I'm wrong) that the "end" of that leg is on the seabed.

But where are the other two legs? Wouldn't they all be at the same angle as the one we can see?

Is it possible they snapped?

I'm sure there is an easy answer, but I can't figure it out.

Yes, this is my current working theory of events as well. I think they went back into a manhole that was not totally submerged on the deck into the engine room on day 1. The boat is sitting a lot lower in the water now than it was right after it happened, maybe due to the stbd leg breaking. Could have happened suddenly, the settling lower into the water. That would put that manway under water and maybe the whole compartment they were inhabiting.

I would be willing to bet that the public wont be seeing a lot of things now. Too many lawyers involved.

They will get out one way or another. In some of the earlier pics you can see one of the legs had snapped as the top of the leg was sticking up out the water. Pretty sure all the broken legs and both cranes will be visible in a 300’ scan range on a bottom scanning sonar image.

The other two probably bent or stuck down into the mud. They have the most weight on them. It’s gonna be a mess of metal down there.

Kind of hard to do on a boat with a flat bow

The conditions made it difficult but while attempting to jack up you always put your nose in the seas to avoid getting side seas and you have more control. I worked. on and ran those boats for 12 years. The heliport acted as a sail and forced the boat to nosedive basically. Liftboats are a different animal in maneuvering.

Well damn. Link?

At this point I’m pretty sure most people following this tragedy assumed those poor guys had perished, but I guess this confirms it.

Assuming accurate, I guess this is now a recovery effort.

RIP to all those men and may their families be comforted by God, the knowledge that they died doing what they loved and providing a noble service.

Prayers to those that knew and loved those baws.

I despise the media.

"Was there monetary pressures to sail?"

What's the CEO gonna say? "Yep, you guessed it. We only care about money, not the lives of the workers and contractors. We'd do it again, too!!"

The SL Scanner page had someone state that the dive support vessel, Seacor Freedom I think, was in port this morning. I was confused by that if the dive search was ongoing.

CEO saying the captain jacked down 5 feet... which he thinks mean the captain was trying to jack down at the time of the incident. Would have taken 12 min to jack down at a rate of 5 ft per minute which is what that boat can do.

How old are those pics? I figured there would be more boats around.

I’m not sure but the Seacor guy said they will continue to dive until everyone is recovered.

I just saw that the Seacor Brave is at the Port as of this moment using the vessel finder GIS tool.

Currently on marinetraffic.com there are no vessels around the Seacor Power. There may be a small dive vessel tied up to it, but no larger ship supporting operation showing up on AIS. Currently the Coast Guard Amberjack is in the area, but does not look to be supporting any activity at the wreck to recover the missing inside the boat.

My brother is a DPO officer on a large deepwater drilling vessel. He was showing me computer read outs of their ship/rig getting blown off drilling site by that storm. They presumably have much more stabilizing power and more developed software programming to keep that deepwater ship over site than these liftboats. I wonder at point do these liftboats start losing ground even when pressing the DP capabilities?
