It's 55'....which begs the question...

Where are the 3-250' legs and the 2-120' crane booms?

Even the pads are 50'x29'

The hull itself is 235'x129'

You would think more of the vessel would be sticking out of the water if in fact the are in 55' of water.

Someone sent me an email over the weekend asking me:

quote:

There are 3 legs on the boat. The way it is sitting means only a portion of the boat is sitting on bottom. The legs are most likely keeping stabilized.

There was a crane on that exposed leg. It is somewhere. That boom and associated wire rope is some where. Based on the pictures and other data that could possibly be blocking access.

The estimated water depth does not match the size of the boat. It is apparent that the legs are in some form keeping the boat “wreckage” stable. Divers can not go get into an environment that is unstable.

I'm in the "know nothing" category BUT 55 feet just doesn't seem "deep" to me .. and I know zero knowledge of this liftboat or currents or anything ... I just know that these families are just suffering.

And someone had a point ... if the President of the USA was in AF1 in the water, do you think there wouldn't be a better plan? I mean maybe not but ...

In terms of oceans its nothing, that boat is sitting on the bottom and still showing. Shallow water is bad in many ways. It gets rough fast when the weather kicks up and tends to be "choppy" which gives the washing machine effect of big waves that have no rhythm or direction. Just a big shitty ball of seemingly random waves.

Almost wish I didn't know. So many prayers for them all.

I'm assuming a good bit of it is sunk in the mud and thus so many of the problems getting access to the wheelhouse and levels 2-3?

is it safe to assume they drowned?

maybe, if they survived the initial crash
for perspective
imagine your home being violently flipped upside down
you would have furniture refrigerators coolers and stoves flying around...

I got downvoted for saying it already but part of me at this point hopes that they were knocked out and didn't know what happened. I held out hope for a long time ...

There will be a press conference at 1pm today by the USCG. I’m pretty sure it won’t be good news from what I’m hearing.

6 days trapped in not warm water with little air and probably no fresh water to drink. Yea my hope is almost drained. I guess there is always a chance though

While the area is only 55 feet deep, it doesn't account for the mud. A production platform had a crane get yanked off it with the operator inside 20 years ago in the Vermillion block. 100 ish feet of water, and the operator never made it out. Took divers down to search for it and see if they could recover they body and found the crane submerged in almost 35 feet of mud.

This is a good point. I had assumed there would be some mud, but wasn't sure exactly how much there actually was.

I've already woken up from nightmares about these poor men caught in the galley and cabins when the liftboat capsized two nights the past few days. This is so terrible.

I haven't woken up to nightmares BUT I 100% have had tons of trouble going to sleep -- during the quiet between awake, prayers and sleep my mind is consumed by them being down there.

Chew surely they're giving the family time to process what they've been perhaps told this morning before the conference right??

The 3 legs probably bent and collapsed.

The 2 cranes are nothing but a pile of twisted metal down there.

It's all still down there in a mess.

I’m not sure who the survey company is out there or if they even have one but it’ll be interesting to see mosaics produced from the sonar images.

I would be willing to bet that the public wont be seeing a lot of things now. Too many lawyers involved.

This has probably been answered, I just havent seen update:

What happened to the two individuals seen on the IR camera outside the vessel? What happened to the ones that had radio contact? Did they go back inside the vessel and if so how? Heroes trying to save others?
