Gayle Benson, owner of Dixie Brewing Company, announced Friday that it would change the name of its brewery and beers.

Benson released a statement Friday morning, saying the company has not selected a new name but is moving forward with the effort to rebrand.

Her statement is a wall of text with the usual keywords you'd expect.

quote:

We recognize, however, that our nation and community are currently engaged in critical conversations about racism and systemic social issues that have caused immeasurable pain and oppression of our black and brown communities. As New Orleans, and our country, continue to evolve we find it necessary to reflect on the role our brewery can play in making our home more united, strong and resilient for future generations.

The word systemic getting thrown around so fricking easily is terrifying.

It's time to shame the naive idiots who thought this was actually about Confederate statues instead of the systematic destruction of Western civilization. You gave an inch and they took the rest.

Who cares? Business can do what they wish with their property, including names.

Lol if you think this is being done freely and voluntarily.

This is getting stupid, while the origin of the word Dixie is not overly clear it was meant to recognize states below the Mason-Dixon line and that's really it. This entire world is full of a bunch of hypersensitive limpwristed pussies.

No one really had an issue with any of the shite they are changing

They are being led to purge things from society by forces behind the scenes

Not surprised by this really.

Didn’t know if anyone was aware, but the Benson’s were on that committee that supported all those monuments being removed a few years ago.

Wolf in sheep’s clothing.

I'm guessing they don't realize 99% of their customer base would not support this decision.

Oh well, it's a free country. Capitalism will work it out.

Welp, I've had my last beer from that brewery. If it's not Dixie (the name of the original, historical LA local swill), then it's nothing. It's not even good beer. It was always more of a nostalgia act/nod to the past. I hope the hipster market can keep them alive after this.

No one buys this shite anyway

A rebranding might revitalize the product

Herein is the real insidious part. It's not a coup and they aren't taking anything...it's being willfully handed to them on a silver platter.

Disgusting.
