UNO CFO called a “hack” and “non-intellectual” at Faculty Senate meeting

Facing a $10 million budget shortfall, UNO administration has undertaken a series of significant cuts to try to dig the university out of its hole. But faculty are increasingly frustrated with the lack of communication about the cuts and are directing their ire at Chief Financial Officer Edwin Litolff.
“Should we be ceding power to a non-academic, non-intellectual CFO,” Gregory Price, a faculty senator and economics professor, asked with a raised voice at a Faculty Senate meeting Tuesday. “Has our president ceded power and responsibility to our hack CFO?”
quote:
“I continue to have very low confidence in the administration, and … I’m particularly offended by Edwin’s behavior and his statement about Disneyland,” Max Krochmal, a history professor and senate parliamentarian said at the meeting.
Litolff’s comments about Disney came at a January University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors meeting in which the board gave approval to the school’s plan to furlough staff.
“We will furlough whatever we need to make it to the end of the year,” Litolff said at the board meeting. “And if some people are taking off the whole month of June, plan your Disney vacation, go on your cruise, because that’s where we may end up being.”
quote:
Faculty senators agreed to “disabuse” Litolff of the notion they would be furloughed en masse to solve the cash flow issue and will opt instead to set up an emergency fund for furloughed staff.
Multiple senators agreed the fund should be managed by faculty rather than by Litolff.
“I don’t want Edwin to touch a penny of my money,” Krochmal said.

They should shut down uno and the rest of the colleges
They only careers in Louisiana are crawfish farmer, plant operator, welder, billboard lawyer, and insurance salesman and none of those jobs really need a degree. Our tax dollars are paying for people to go to college and move to texas

So they can just create a fund that is full of money? How does one do this?

Because the academic intellectuals that brought us Socialism are the people that should be managing the budget.

Reminds me a bit of when Swearingen was in charge at NLU/ULM. Next thing you know, Litolff will be talking about changing UNO's name because that will somehow attract more doctoral programs.
but also

While Phelps repeatedly called for moderation, other senators voiced calls for action that bordered on insurrection.
“Rebellion is always a choice, right?” Price said. “Death before dishonor.”
The student government representative on the senate, Joshua Trochez, said “rebellion might be needed” to push back against the UL System, which he believes is calling the shots in the university’s budget crisis.
These fricking people are the ones teaching your kids. Look at the goofy shite they are saying. Go sit in a meeting at a real job and talk about rebellion. See how long it takes security to have your desk cleared out and you standing in the parking lot with a box.

At first I was going to argue this statement...upon greater reflection you're right.

The university is well overstaffed for an enrollment of 5,000. Prob have enough for double that.

Not sure what’s happened since Feb 5th date on article, but The professors seem butt hurt.
Does anyone know what this guy’s PhD is in? I am assuming it’s business management or something similar. It’s just funny because the professor is almost implying he is an uneducated buffoon in line with Jethro Clampett.
Before grambling he had additional experience within the U of LA system.

interim President of the University of Louisiana Monroe. Litolff previously served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the University of Louisiana System.

How is UNO still open?
It’s a money pit and has existed solely as a daycare for local direction-less 20-something’s since Katrina.

Who are they gonna rebel against and how lol
Maybe there’s a certain flag they could use as a symbol of rebellion or something…

My understanding is that it’s being strongly considered to moving UNO from the UL system back to the LSU system as it originally was.

How much of an "intellectual" do you really fancy yourself, when your job is teaching at UNO? I realize it's not the same as being a plumber. But this is bottom tier as far as "academia" goes.
I don't blame the professors for their feelings. Anyone would be upset, after all they don't make a lot of money, and they are faced with losing their income, possibly permanently. It's not that easy to go jump to another school for a teaching job either, or most of them would have done it.
But, these caustic comments make them sound like idiots. Nobody can be sympathetic to this kind of behavior. Anyone, intellectual or not, understands the problem. There is not enough money coming in to keep funding the "university." It should have been closed or merged years ago. Faculty senates can "demand" anything they want. They cannot change these basic facts, or wish money into existence.
Since everyone wanted to keep kicking the can down the road, the time for painful choices may have to be right now.

He was vp of finance or some shite at grambling until late last year

I know they are under separate systems, But suno and uno should have merged a while ago.
Neither have their same enrollment from 2004.
It’s 20 years later.
