Sad that not one sorority had the maturity to offer her a bid. Ask any person who has ever worked with a person with Downs and they will tell you that they do wonders for workplace morale.

I highly doubt that.

Low self esteem isn’t an intellectual disability, hammer.

Because she would be a mascot, not a real member. Plus how do alcohol and down-syndrome interact? Probably not a great combo

Further cementing the toxic environment that is Greek life. All being in a sorority is about is apparently getting drunk.

They could have found a role for her if these organizations were actually worth anything.

Here comes mandatory "You have to take everyone that rushes your fraternity or sorority, cutting someone is hazing" rules.

Thank god we lost our charter because we liked to party.

Also, I've done WAY worse than a slightly downsy cheerleader.

Just goes to show that Sorority and Fraternity people tend to be self important assholes like I've always tended to think.

I disagree. We had several retards in my fraternity.

It really is pretty pitiful, especially if her sister was in a sorority at that school.

It’s an extra chromosome. Not something you can cure.

In spirit you're right but in reality, no one would want Tri Delt as a Make A Wish. Greek life just isn't good idea.

To be fair, girls without Down’s syndrome get cut all the time.

Yeah, I was sort speaking in general. I just hate to see someone be dealt with Down's, childhood cancer, etc. It's unfair to them, unfair to the family, everyone.
My Utopian society would be that every child would have the chance to make something of themselves.

Agreed! We had several guys from New Iberia in mine. Well over half of them were slow.

Haircuts were on point though.

The true story here are the people responsible for making this girl believe she wants to be a part of such garbage. Like someone already said, they did her a favor.

You mean like cutting themselves?

I wonder what she does as a cheerleader due; the Down syndrome population has an elevated risk of atlantoaxial instability so excess neck flexion is a huge risk and activities such as cheer and gymnastics put this young lady at a greater risk

Yes but she was part of a program called Mason Life that is a brief college experience for kids with special needs. Usually they only last a year or two at most. Taking her on and letting her experience a pledgship would have been pioneering for a sorority. Sadly, they all decided to go by the philosophy of “what will others think about us”?

Just sad that not one sorority took the step. I wish I could say I was surprised.

I feel bad for her, but I understand. She wouldn't have been able to participate in the same way the other girls could, and I hate to say it but she might have been more of a liability than an asset.
