Because the movie was "The Sixth Sense" and she'd heard it had a trippy twist at the end.

Seriously, she didn't deserve what happened to her nor is she to blame in any way. This guy is a POS and deserves what's coming to him.

I can only imagine that she either didn't want to hurt his feelings, was too scared to think logically, or was so inexperienced with physical intimacy that hitting the road was deemed an over-reaction.

...And I can't help but think that after the 4th or 5th unwelcomed attempt to de-pants, most women would've walked. Sorry. This was
quote:

a person she knew since high school,
and I doubt there was much fear of being held hostage
quote:

in his dorm room.
If the guy was a known creep, she wouldn't have been there alone with him. It's not like the sound of a female screaming would be ignored in that situation. His door would be kicked in with a quickness.

And I suspect this was the first question from
quote:

her mother, father, sister and a college counselor
after she told them what happened.

And it's far from a senseless, insensitive question. It's pertinent to learning the psychology of sexual assault victims. Why did you feel trapped? What was it that kept you in that room after attempt #8...#11...#17?

Maybe women need to be vaccinated against the fear paralysis in these date-rape situations.

Again, she's not to blame for the rape, but she is guilty of not saving herself.

I don't think you know what "exactly" means. You said nothing about investigators.

And you implied that you agreed it was a dumb question:

you can't bounce around in all these posts and say "thats not exactly what you said", and in the same exact post say "this is what you implied"

you do know how retarded that makes you look right.

When he used "no one," he was obviously talking about everyone here. If he was thinking of investigators, he would have said it.

I called the question dumb. And he said it's dumb but not victim blaming but he used a =/= sign.

Not for nothing, but if I was accused of a felony, no fricking way I talk to anyone without a lawyer present, whether guilty or not.

I'm rather skeptical of all people, even those I've known for years, especially men.

Would it be your fault if you got in a car with a long time friend who was drunk but said they weren't?

Yes. Getting into the car is completely my responsiblity whether that person is drunk or not.
quote:

Are you responsible for your injuries?

No. And those two completely different and independent issues.

I'm responsible for my actions, getting into the car. Not others' actions, driving drunk, getting into a crash and injuring others.

You misunderstand what I said earlier. I merely said, always be aware of your surroundings and don't ever expect others to have your well-being or best interest at heart.

I'm also pretty sure any defense attorney is going to ask her why she didn't leave. I would if I were defending him. It is a valid question that DOES NOT negate or mititage the other person's actions.

Jesus Christ. You never explicitly said investigators should ask the question. You must have used the term "no one" in this thread 3 times talking about the people here, yet we are supposed to assume that this one time you meant "investigators"? FFS.

quote:

No one literally blamed her.

quote:

No one is allowed to question the woman
quote:

No one is blaming her or putting the onus on her.
And then...
quote:

All I said is that investigators shouldn't be barred from asking certain questions.

quote:

More implications.
I called it a dumb question. You said dumb doesn't mean blaming. Is that incorrect?

And that means don't go to your friend's place to watch movies. Cool.

1. There's no such thing as girls and guys being "friends" platonically.

2. In what fricking world does a girl going to guy's dorm room to watch movies actually mean watching movies?

First, I didn't say the guy wanted that.

My point exactly. You're looking only at what she wanted and saying that's all that should matter. By not looking at his persistence and saying "this is a sign to at least back off and let things cool down, if not leave altogether" then you're saying it's okay for women to be naive.

quote:

Second, that doesn't give him the right to rape her.

Hello, strawman argument. At no point have I said or even hinted that he had "the right to rape her". Far from it.

quote:

Wow. And here it is. All women are partially to blame for being raped. They should all know that every man will try to rape them.

You're purposely missing the point, aren't you? I'll try putting it as simply as I can, maybe you can gin up some outrage at my "mansplaining" while you're at it.

When you get physical with a guy in a situation like this he's expecting (or at least hoping) that it's going to lead to sex. While she may only want to go to a certain point he's wanting to go all the way. If she has to continually stop him from going beyond that point, that's a warning sign. According to the story she got that warning sign well over a dozen times.

She didn't recognize the sign and your stance is that she shouldn't have had to. My stance is that your stance is naive. The end.

The “she should have known better” argument is by far the weakest cop out here. Should she have trusted the guy? Of course not. But that’s hindsight 20/20. He was someone she knew for a while yet it’s her fault for getting raped by him. I said she was likely in denial but that’s not exclusive to someone who is raped. There are signs when a spouse cheats. Signs when a kid shoots up a school. When a person commits suicide. You’re saying that any time that happens someone else is partially responsible for not noticing or acting on those signs.

We are both making that assumption, so it doesn’t affect either of our arguments.
