ULM professor murdered by his father in law in a murder-suicide

A University of Louisiana Monroe professor, Joshua Comer, is the apparent victim in what police are calling a murder and death by suicide Sunday night in Mer Rouge.
Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs confirmed the Mer Rouge Police Department and the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a shots fired call on Handy Hill Road in Mer Rouge around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Comer, age 39, was located at the scene and died of gunshot wounds. The alleged suspect in the shooting, Jack Matthews, age 68, was also located at the residence and died by suicide.
Matthews was an owner of Mer Rouge Wholesale warehouse of Sterlington and Comer's father-in-law.
Tubbs said the investigation suggests an altercation took place at the residence prior to the shooting.
Witnesses at the scene were interviewed by law enforcement.
The bodies of Comer and Matthews were sent to Little Rock for autopsy on Monday, and autopsy results are pending.
According to the ULM Hawkeye, Comer was an assistant professor of communication and the communication program director at ULM.

this is gauche but I'm gonna go with, seeing the words communications prof, the younger man is a very liberal to moderate at best democrat and outspoken. Father in law is very conservative and somewhat outspoken. There's been clashes between them the past few months that finally boiled over in this time between the protest in DC and the inauguration.

Very sad. A young woman lost her husband and father. My guess is that it had to do with money and not politics.

I guess I can get by the fact that Monroe doesn't have an autopsy facility, or maybe they just don't currently have a qualified person available at the moment, but they couldn't find a place closer than Little Rock?

Spoooky. My gf's neighbor is probably the same age as the wife and her dad who is probably the same age as the dad showed up at her place just as we were leaving yesterday night. Got a real weird feeling from him as we drove away. Wonder if politics are driving the boomers nuts.
