so people just buy 2 1-liter bottles now? do we really think the overall consumption of soda has gone down since? of course not, silly to think otherwise

I forget all the changes but I want to say it was during the Bloomberg days, and they are still enforced today

And maybe it might deter some people from buying soda, that’s the desired result I guess

Here I got a snippet off google of what Bloomberg tried and did do as mayor

“But the so-called “soda ban” remained closely associated with Bloomberg, who had previously banned cigarettes from parks and bars and trans fats from restaurants in a broad effort to combat public health problems through regulation”

Bloomberg's soda law was repealed in 2015.

Fat tax on all this shite. Nobody had a problem with vice taxes on booze and weed and cigarettes—same applies here. You want that Popeyes, you gonna pay 20% for that shite.

If a country can reduce their overall spending on healthcare and create a healthier populace simply by changing advertising why not do it for the greater good?
Is there a scintilla of evidence that shows that cutting back on adverts for junk food will have an impact on obesity?

And if your answer is, “well, we don’t know if it will work”, then why not try to do something that will work?

it’s about building healthy habits
Is there any data showing that it does that though?

More than likely, no, there isn’t.

The obesity crisis will not be fixed by lackadaisical moves like this. This does nothing.

Ban political ads if this is your opinion. Nothing leads to worse behavior.

The thing I was as eluding to is that I’m under the impression these types of things are normal in the Northeast, I feel in the South, people would fight it more because we don’t really regulate obesity.

But to be honest, I think the whole being fat is beautiful is wrong too, it’s crazy

So you want to ban the advertisement but not the food?

Better yet, get the government out of healthcare and welfare and weights will drop on their own.

I found out recently that only and New Zealand allow pharmaceutical companies to advertise.

That’s wild.

Scruffy would actually be curious to see if pharm companies can show a positive return on advertising.

Scruffy hasn’t been asked once about a med advertised on TV before.

Has nothing to do with the government but how impressionable the human brain is. Advertising and marketing works otherwise it would not be a trillion dollar global industry. Would your rather have more hot chicks or less hot chicks? Should we let fentanyl/opioid producers advertise during the day and during children's programming?

I’ve never asked for one either. I just know they spoke a lot about the ad campaign Purdue did with Oxycontin in that new HBO documentary.

We don't need laws, we just need to make fat shaming acceptable again.

I would wager that the fact that Purdue lied about the addictive nature of the drug had a far bigger impact.

Not saying that the ads have zero impact, just that I highly doubt it is much.

Meals and conferences given by the reps have a larger impact.

You do realize 40% of Americans are obese? Maybe the US should start doing this too.
