I know it doesn't really matter, but I wonder if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk. when you're driving do you often punish people who fail to use the crosswalk by killing them?
It makes a huge difference. Was this a situation that if a human were driving it could have been prevented or one that would have happened no matter what, i.e. stepping out from between cars into traffic.

Nothing he said was anywhere close to the nonsense you've been posting

Autonomous vehicles are rarely at fault in accidents, but they're involved in more total accidents than most experienced drivers. The theory is that their strict adherence to traffic laws causes human drivers to hit them more often.

Which means it's not the self driving car that has the issue, that's the human drivers that are wrong here.

Which also means or at least insinuates if there were no human drivers, we'd be much safer off, right? And we're still in the infancy stages of this, it'll obviously be better 10, 20, 50 years from now.

In what you quoted the basic problem is human drivers.

The pedestrian was actually on a bicycle.

The media doesn't give two craps about getting the facts straight. I have seen several different sources for this story that alternate between the vic being on a bike or walking. Hell, one story had a pic of the crashed bike and called her a bike rider in one paragraph and a pedestrian on foot in the next paragraph. Pretty bad when a single news source can't get the story right from paragraph to paragraph.

I'm going to need some numbers on accidents per mile driven to back up this claim.

These don't contradict though. You can admit that humans need to bear some responsibility for their actions while also being a person who acts in the same stupid ways.

Nevermind that the quote literally said self driving cars are rarely at fault, who cares about that. All that quote meant is human drivers are used to shitty human drivers so they expect shitty human driving. Meaning, human drivers are at fault, that's so from that quote.

Cool, we can maybe get reasonable discussions on this.

It's a pretty clear false flag. Probably a joint effort from CAD and eBay once they found out Amazon was helping Uber with their software.

The problem is Elon Musk is involved in self driving cars, so that poster will never admit to anything like that, he'd rather make really, really bad posts that make no sense as long as it allows him to discredit Elon Musk.

Yes, but if you're involved in more total accidents - even if they're not your fault - you're going to have problems.

Yes, in all likelihood, it will be much better down the road. It's still a major concern at the moment though.

Waymo was involved in more total accidents than any group of drivers between 25 and 85.

I don't disagree but again, we have to acknowledge who is at fault or responsible here, it's proven that it's the human drivers.

Sure it is, but so are human drivers right now.
