Maybe so. I am damn lucky to have my job. But I couldn’t take care of my family the way I would like there making that wage. I want my kids to attend great schools. You can’t live in vestavia on $25 an hour.

There are other great school systems around Bham. There is a big difference in “want” and “what you want”. Trussville is a great school system. Sounds like you just “want” Vestavia.

My personal experience watching night shift nurses is about 20% on patient care and about 80% surfing/playing games on the internet.

No what is insulting is not taking care of your employees while throwing the bank at contract workers. I’m a firm believer in taking care of your house and your family first. It makes zero sense to me to undercut your own employees by throwing money at people who don’t have a vested interest in your company

A large portion of the critical care nurses at our hospital system took one look at this situation, then quit, became travelers themselves, and were almost immediately rehired by the hospital system at ~$150/hr as travelers. The demand will not go down anytime soon. The hospital is only hurting themselves and the patients IMO.

Lol @ claiming you have to live in Vestavia for a high standard of living.

Your schtick makes much more sense now.

Respiratory therapists are not getting adequate compensation. Nurses are getting raises and making a big fuss. There are more medical professionals than nurses working their asses off but you never hear about them.

THANK YOU!!!!

I have no idea why this has touched such a nerve with the alpha males of the OT

If the hospital thinks the nurses are as useless and easily replaceable as the OT, they should simply fire them and hire more. Simple as that

The hospitals have been giving "Covid" bonuses along the way. So far I've gotten 2 bonuses and a 15% raise. I only work 2 days a week.

It’s amazing. My wife has been travel nursing for years.

During COVID, she has been treated like shite by her last batch of coworkers because they are mad at how much she gets paid. She simply tells them to STFU and they can become travelers if they want. Anyone that continues to do that job for $25 an hour is an idiot. Not worth it in the slightest.

Now $100 an hour? Totally different ballgame.

Given that inflation has increased wages, but still $25/ hour with benefits for a job where most work 3 12s as ‘full time’ and work after 4pm is often extra pay as well as holidays and everything else. You can work around having 4-6 day weekends to take a trip without taking leave. All kinds of OT when you routinely work 4 -12s for most.

All we want to do it concentrate on the negatives. No different than teachers. If you look at it optimistically then there’s tons of benefits. Not to mention being a nurse offers tons of options to move up in both position and pay. Let’s not act like you should be making the same pay after 5-10 years as a nurse as someone that’s just hired. If you can’t figure out ways to increase your income with 5-10 years of experience then that’s on you, not the hospitals fault.

I don’t have an issue with a protest at all, do what you want. But I also don’t have any sympathy for the nurses.

A reckoning is coming soon. Nursing pay is unsustainable. $100/hr for a bachelor degree entry level position is absolutely insane.

Hope they enjoy the pay while it lasts because every other department in the hospital is going to remember why they couldn’t get raises for years.

I wonder how much they pay for health insurance on the open market.

Seems like the travel nurse world is a young persons game. Smart play where you can load up on cash and pay down student debt.

I used to work at a teaching hospital. You guys make minimum wage considering the hours you put in.

Tigerdroppings in general is ultra capitalist except for when labor has the upper hand. Hard turn to communist when that happens.

I know a girl that went back nursing school at about 40 years old. Worked as an RN for a couple of years and started travel nursing right about the time Covid hit. I haven’t talked to her in awhile but last I heard, she was making $85 an hour, no idea about benefits.

She’s also pretty hot for a 45 year old, very good body, fitness junkie, and unless she’s had some major moral changes, I have no doubt she’s sleeping with half the anesthesiologist. She no doubt plays the stereotypical travel nurse role perfectly.
