most people have a tough time doing interviews so they tend to focus pretty hard on the reporter so they dont screw up.
she also may have not realized the guy had been fired, glanced at him as he was walking up, recognized him, and thought nothing of him being around which led to her ignoring him before he held up the gun

This isn't "what we've come to." People have always been idiots. We just see it more because everyone has a platform now and social media brings idiocy to the forefront.
People like that are the outliers, but those are the only ones you're going to hear about. And to be honest, those are the ones you want to hear anyway...most people don't care about the droves of black people condemning this hideous act, because they can't bitch about that.
