The suspected shooter has been identified as Vester Lee Flanigan, also known as Bryce Williams. He is still alive and is in critical condition.
Flanigan killed himself near mile marker 17 on I-66 around 11:25 a.m. Wednesday.

not all the time... an interview w/ a chamber member... they prob. felt it safe to go without a delay

Local TV in a small market isn't on a delay. Maybe in a top 25 market. But definitely not in Roanoke, VA

What percentage of all hate crimes have they been charged with? I bet 5% max.

IF he was a racist, and wanted to make a point, she was the perfect victim. White, female, and blonde. I want to see what Obama says on this. He started his march on racism in this country, and you would have to go back 50 years in our history to find another act like this that is based on race.

Yes numerous times. Many of us were on his Twitter feed watching him upload before it was suspended

I think most reasonable people probably don't view this as a strictly racially motivated crime. I mean the guy obviously had a beef with the victims.
I think most people get pissed because of the double standard. Switch only the races of the shooter/victims and keep everything else exactly the same - the narrative would be entirely different.

My point is that the video isn't that bad....just like I said in my first post. Yeah it sucks that they died, but how does it differ from the tens of thousands of people who are killed on camera every year?
Stop trying to play the hardass. The video shows the murder of an innocent young lady and guy. Just because you don't see her brains splatter out the other side of her head doesn't make it any better.

I still don't get how no one him standing there pointing a pistol....
A few posters have already explained this, but I was a former TV photographer/reporter. I can explain it to you.
None of them even SAW him there.
The photographer is totally dialed into his eyepiece, and likely has his left eye closed. Most young photogs don't keep both eyes open. Even if it was open, no way he sees the shooter behind him and to his left.
As for the reporter, she is trained to look at the interviewee while speaking to her and not to turn and face the camera until she is ready to wrap her live shot.
The person being interviewed is totally dialed in to the reporter. She's not on TV often, so she's going to pay attention to the interview so she doesn't look foolish. If her head pops up and looks off somewhere else, she will lose her train of thought, and that's what she is concentrating on most.
Lastly, it's not uncommon for passers-by to watch live remotes as they happen. Even if they did see him there, out the corner of their eye, they wouldn't have had enough time to recognize who it was.
The killer struck at the precise time when he knew the news crew was most vulnerable. He was aware of that they would not notice him, and that their attention was elsewhere.
I hope this puts to bed the notion that people "can't believe they didn't see the guy with the gun right in front of them."
These three people had NO chance of escape. No only did they not see their attacker, they COULDN'T have seen him.

Now, the lady being interviewed, I feel like she could've maybe noticed something, but if she's focused on the reporter
If they had (probably did) lights set up behind the camera guy then she wouldn't had been able to see him very well if at all.
