Two men arrested for tearing down Flock camera in Lafayette

Lance Jones, 33, and Marvell Harris, 24, both of Lafayette are each charged with one count of damage to property with intent to defraud. The two men are accused of tearing down a Flock camera Thursday evening from the 300 block of East Verot School Road. Police said both were identified using footage taken by the camera. Flock cameras are AI-enabled automated license plate readers that log the location, description and tags of passing vehicles into a searchable database.
Harris was arrested Tuesday afternoon and has been released on $2,500 bond. Jones was arrested Wednesday and is being held in the Lafayette Parish jail on $10,000 bond.

I know multiple law enforcement operators that have used Flock to apprehend child predators, murderers, rapists, and other awful criminals. In some of these cases, Flock was the sole lead investigative component that lead to the apprehension.
The solution to the little abuse of Flock cameras by a few bad apples is more guardrails, audits, and consequences for the officers that do misuse it, not completely take it away to allow sex offenders to get away with their heinous crimes.
By advocating for the complete removal of Flock, you are also saying that you do not care when law enforcement caught that one child predator. Really sick logic here.

We have license plate readers on all entrances/ exits to my neighborhood. Five in all. They have helped with catching thieves. I’m glad we have them.

Are these features on all or most Flock cameras? Do they have to be enabled by the contracting organization - like a subscription?

Would you also be glad to have police cameras inside your home?
That way if someone breaks in your house the cops will already be watching and be right there to save you.
