I know nationally, but it would seem the Louisiana state market doesn't regard those national rankings like NY and CA would.

As an LSU alum who is currently out of state, if your goal is to be a partner at a LA firm, then just sacrifice everything for 1L year (and second and third year too) to be Top 10 percent at LSU and get that NOLA law firm clerkship. If you want to go out of state, just a heads up, LSU is known more for its football than its law school.

See, this is why LSU is the wrong answer to the question though. If a firm considers the top 10% of LSU students and the top 30% of Tulane students for a clerkship, you have a better chance of getting the clerkship if you're a student at Tulane. It's no secret if you make law review and coif at LSU you're going to be fine, but if you have the option of going to Tulane, you expand your opportunities and have more margin for error.

I don’t disagree with you. If you or your family is in the financial situation to pay for options down the road then Tulane is a great choice and opens up doors LSU might not. I would hate to see someone to go into hundreds of thousands of debt though if their dream is to stay in LA and get a job at Kean Miller or Jones Walker that can be gotten for literally half the cost of Tulane.

It doesn’t really matter far as I can see. Just go to LSU for the highest likelihood of passing the bar. It’s the connections you make while in school that make your future job right out of school.

Every answer to any of these questions always ends up with references to the top 10-20%. Does the lower 80% hang a shingle, do public defender work, other options?
I would suspect getting top 10% at LSU is a lot easier than at Tulane.
I would also suspect that if you knew some partners in the good law firms, that they might hire you despite the ranking.

top 10-20% is for "Big Law" or the big insurance defense firms (for the most part)
there are all sorts of other firms (including government work like PDO or prosecution) out there
