Tulane Canceled a Talk by the Author of an Acclaimed Anti-Racism Book

Reason: “Tulane Canceled a Talk by the Author of an Acclaimed Anti-Racism Book After Students Said the Event Was 'Violent'“
Reason
Life of a Klansman: A Family History of White Supremacy is the latest book by Edward Ball, whose award-winning 1998 book Slaves in the Family traces the histories of people enslaved by Ball's own ancestors. In Klansman, Ball tells the story of a racist great-grandfather who joined the Ku Klux Klan.
The feedback was so unhinged that a casual observer might wonder whether they mistakenly thought the book was written by a Klansman, or endorsed the Klan. The comments on the event's announcement page—as well as statements by student government officials—make it abundantly clear this is not the case. They know exactly what the book's point of view is.
Good read about the level of stupidity these kids are swallowing.

Everyone needs to watch lectures by Johnathan Haidt or read his books. He goes into depth on why progressive college campuses are producing such fragile students.
This is exactly what he describes. An unwillingness to accept diversity of thought and how the kids will react violently to it.
ETA: this isn’t even diversity of thought here. This is someone who likely shares a lot of the same views and ideas but the way that it is framed has been deemed hurtful and therefore unacceptable by Tulane. Theyre shouting down their own views at this point.

It’s absolute insanity and the school officials who folded have caused this problem for themselves. By continuing to capitulate to these groups whenever they start throwing out demands as if they’ve got you tied to a chair in a dark warehouse with a gun to your head. Now it’s become so commonplace and they win every single one of these battles that the insanity has been allowed to grow and they’ve created an atmosphere in college where learning is discouraged.

I thought Tulane students were supposed to be smart? That's the dumbest shite I've read in a while.

Remember when Nazis would use this kind of logic on Jews?

Agreed. There’s an example of this almost daily.

Nah man, silence is violence. Wait. I'm confused.

Free speech and open dialogue. So long as it is speech and dialogue we agree with.
Otherwise, it makes us uncomfortable and unsafe. Must ban it.
Once these fricking egg shell numb nuts get out of school and start to outnumber normal people, society will be irreparably fricked.

Good. Imagine being a grifter by denigrating your ancestors like that. Pathetic.

One Tulane graduate commented on the Instagram post about the event's postponement that he was disappointed with this decision. An associate director in Tulane's admissions office responded: "Go cry about it."
Wow Tulane, talk about a complete lack of professionalism. Sounds like someone who is costing the university thousands of dollars by scaring away potential students/families.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"
- George Santayana
The rub now is they aren't forgetting the past, they are willfully ignoring and trying to erase it.

I’d rather read good, classic literature of the fiction variety than read a whole book about how colleges make liberals. I’m sure he makes a lot of good points, but it sounds pretty damn boring

These are the same people who solved the corona/classroom problem by going out in the yard and putting up tents with four walls and climate control so as to avoid crowded classrooms inside.

Tulane is full of kids from New Jersey who knew they couldn't get into the Ivy League, tried for Duke and didn't get in there either.
