I hadn't thought about that.

Well I guess if you don’t trust your neighbors in your neighborhood or you live in an apartment that’s not Halloween friendly, the trunk or treat is the best form a parent could give their kids, so I guess in that case I don’t have a problem with it. But I do think trick or treating should really be done only for kids ~12 and under in your own neighborhood. If you know your neighbors, you shouldn’t have to wonder if someone is trying to harm your kids.

I go to Trunk-Or-Treats to meet MILFs who need their trunks treated.

did not know this was even a thing. Until after Katrina when we did this in Chalmette. Most people didn't have functioning houses so, this made sense.

My old hoa would run warrants at all the chokepoints into the neighborhood to keep the hoodlum kids out. No better way to be scared straight than to have your parent or older sibling arrested in front of you at a young age

We do both. Our kids school has a trunk or treat the weekend before Halloween and then the kids go door to door on Halloween .

Have to realize that many of the younger parents who agree with this parking lot crap are likely less than 20 years removed from their Halloween. Each year that passes, old school Halloween is just a fart in the wind. You guys should have seem Halloween in the 70's. We had awful costumes but the experience and spoils were incredible.

My HOA banned trunk or treat after 2016 when one of the liberal churches decided to bus in kids from all sorts of bad areas. Some of the parents were caught leaving the church ground and wandering around the neighborhood looking in windows. Thankfully it got shut down.

Why do you all bitch so much about this?

Our trunk or treat is just a huge fun party for the kids and adults. We grill burgers and make jambalaya. That and the beer are free. There is great music and 30 cars decorated and giving out a shitton of candy.

And yes, we do the real trick or threading up and down several blocks as well.

Because they're retarded and salty about life. Same reason they bitch about everything else

I dont mind people from around the town coming into the neighborhood, what I can't stand is when they come and stay in their car and drive their kid around when there are 1000s of people walking in the subdivision.

Are parents really this paranoid about strangers doing something to their kids in a neighborhood setting?

Yes, because things can still happen to kids in a neighborhood setting. The thing is, questionable people can come into your neighborhood on Halloween night.

I wish it weren't the case that people had to worry about their kids trick-or-treating in their own neighborhoods, but that's just how it is.

You can stay thanks to all the people who bus their kids into the other neighborhoods.

Probably true, but this church halloween/fall fair/carnival stuff (I've never seen "trunk or treat") has been going on for decades

How exactly does it "ruin halloween for many kids"?

The best part about Halloween as a kid was walking around the neighborhood going house to house. From a kid's perspective, doing it in a parking lot would destroy the experience.

Trunk or treat is awesome. People from outside the neighborhood shouldn't be in trick or treating where they don't live. Trunk or treat is a good alternative.

My mom was the type that knew pretty much a lot of the people in our neighborhood and wouldn't give candy to families she didn't recognize.
