First off, I completely understand if people live in the country where traditional trick-or-treat can't happen. It makes sense to do something like this.

However, in areas where traditional trick-or-treat can happen, opting for a trunk-or-treat is stupid. Are parents really this paranoid about strangers doing something to their kids in a neighborhood setting? Also, do churches do this b/c they think Halloween is evil?

We just get the sheriffs Dept to X-ray our candy to make sure there’s no razor blades in the apples or needles in the tootsie rolls.

I agree, I loved going around the neighborhood for trick or treating. Walking around a parking sucks.

A church parking lot (or similar) where people park their cars and pass out candy as kids trick or treat from trunk to trunk.

Usually with a law enforcement officer on guard to stop any tricking shenanigans.

It is where a bunch of people park their cars in a parking lot, usually at a church, and all the kids walk around and collect candy from people's trunks.

Trunk or treats happen all week. You can do the trunk or treat on the weekend and go house to house on the 31st. You can do both. I’m guessing you don’t have kids and you have some complex about churches. Amirite?

People bitch about people coming into their neighborhood that don't belong there, now they are bitching about trunk or treats to avoid neighborhood assholes. Makes sense...

Halloween is without a doubt the trashiest holiday anyway. There is nothing to “ruin” it.

Hmmm......we back my truck up to the end of the driveway, with a firepit to the side, and a grill going with hotdogs, hamburgers, a couple daquiri machines going for the parents, music going.....

Our "trunk or treat" is more like a tailgate.

We enjoy it, the neighbors enjoy it......what's the problem?

Trunk or treat ruins Halloween for many families too. This year only the little heathen project children came and my cats were terrified

Regardless of what people say, the primary driver behind trunk or treats is lazy parents, not safety.

If you think it's lame, don't bring your kids to it.

ruins Halloween for kids

Source? Did you have Halloween "ruined" for you as a kid because of one of these events? Did you bring your kids to one and it "ruined" Halloween? It's just a day. What is there to "ruin"? Celebrate it the way you choose and allow parents to parent how they see fit.

As for the "Halloween is evil" argument, churches that organize these events do so primarily as outreach. They do it to encourage people to come check out their church. That's really the main goal, not as some sort of protest against the "evils" of Halloween.

And many churches don't have the actual car trunks anymore, but they set up Carnival-style games for kids where they can win candy. If the kids are happy and having fun, why does it bother you that they aren't having fun the same way as you did as a kid?
