Depends on the neighborhood. My neighborhood is all in on Halloween. If you don't have minimum 4 inflatables, every bush covered in spider webs, and some sarcastic witty tombstone or other "ironic" macabre scene in your yard, people quietly but still somehow very openly judge you and your poor children.

Doesn't change the fact I buy those shitty peanut things in the black and orange wrappers and that all of the kids look different than the ones I usually see come Halloween. I think this is a good thing. Not only will the neighborhood kids go to other popular neighborhoods to trick or treat but also reduce the number of unknowns (I hope).

Watered down shite. Part of the fun is going to the houses.
Part of the fun and all of the danger. That said, we live in a small gate community now and it's door to door and everybody participates (lots of kids and everybody knows one another). In the last neighborhood we lived in, it was nice but not gated and there were some rude little bastards being trucked in and when you have to dole the candy out so they don't try to take it all, it kind of ruins it.
I didn't grow up rich, but if I had said some shite like, "gimme" at Halloween, my neighbors would have beat my arse with my parents' approval.

There was this house down the street and the front was enclosed by a brick wall with a rod iron gate door. Every Halloween, the woman would dress up like a witch with a huge cast iron pot with punch with dry ice in it and she
would dare the brave to drink her potion and she would pass it in between the bars. It was so cool when I was a kid.

I never understood why people care about kids from other neighborhoods coming by their houses. It’s kids getting candy, pretty damn harmless
