Seedy facilities ? Would the toilet rival that of the typical interstate gas station bathroom around back that you get a key for ? I’ll check it out sometime and see how it goes

We're a broker and have some asset based trucks as well. It's a mess, we have lanes that we'll have moved consistently for weeks/months suddenly see a 50% increase in the rates it's taking for securing trucks. And just like you said, we've had a few drivers just no show/no call because they're booking better paying loads and not bothering to inform anyone. A good bit of our asset based drivers are also currently contracted out for hurricane relief work which is also stretching us even more thin.

ETA: If you're a dry van dude and are reading this do me a favor and get your drivers to get a tanker endorsement. You'll make my life easier

I work in logistics for a large retailer and we're having a super hard time moving our freight.

It seems that for any broker we contract out to, their driver ends up ghosting them on a load for a higher-paying one. We end up having to re-source almost half of the loads we tender out to brokers.

Our asset-based partners are so much more reliable, but stretched thin.

Is the demand for drivers that high right now?

Yes, I'm an operations manager for a 3PL. Basically what's going on right now is a few things happening at the same time.

First off - The pandemic didn't help shite at all this year. Do you have ELD exempt freight? If not, look into whether or not what you are producing is essential. If so, then you need to talk to your State DOT and get exemption status.

2nd - we are currently in a driver shortage. We dont have enough trucks or drivers in the market to keep up.

lastly - you mother fricking shippers decided to move all your freight at the same time. Not necessarily your fault with the shutdowns, but now that we are opening back up these manufactures had a shite ton of backorders piled up.

Pretty much all my customers are paying north of $3.00 per mile. If not, your shite will get shipped when we get to it.

Yes. It’s been high for a couple years now. I work for a freight company and this year alone our volume has been. fluctuating. We were down 20% in April compared to a year ago due to the pandemic but as of August we were up 6% without hiring anybody. We were having a hard time getting our freight moved and it would sit for a day or 2 before we could move it

Tiger Truck Stop for seedy, trashy, nasty people and facilities

The weirdest thing about the tiger truck stop is that it isn't the locals that make it trashy, or if you go across the Bayou it is the locals who make the shell trashy

So what happens if y'all cant ship the meat patties in time? McDonalds gonna adopt the Hot Wok business model?

Are you implying that McDonalds actually NEEDS refrigeration to keep their "meat" fresh?

I've got even money that says those units on the front of their reefer trailers is just an empty shroud.

I do logistics for a living as well with concentration in the mechanical and industrial construction sector and haven’t had much difficulty finding drivers over the last 6 months. We’re drying up on work but have been pretty steady since covid. All company owned flatbeds hiring power only drivers for the most part

That's what I have observed in all markets. Every time an employer says "we can't find enough X workers." I put an "*at the wage I am paying" at the end of their sentence.

I work for LTB - it's a smaller 3pl. Mostly deal with finished plastics customers but I also found a sweet niche in doing international freight and brought a lot business to the company.

My company deals in medical supplies. We pay our drivers by the hour, even the road drivers. They are out 2 to 3 nights a week and home on weekends. Zero touch freight. They are pulling in 70-80K. Local drivers are on a 4/10 schedule making 45-60K based on class A or B. Needless to say, we don’t have a lot of turnover. Atlanta is the only area where finding drivers can be tough.

It's especially funny when I see an ad for a job and the description goes something like

"Show up to WORK. No phones, no BS, no drama. If you can't work hard this isn't the job for you!"

which roughly translates to "I'm an overbearing a-hole who will micromanage you and give you no breaks. I have poor judgement and don't know how to hire."

Or the ones that say "Pay starts $12, if you're a good worker we will go from there."

Yeah right, buddy. Good luck.
