I would have put him on the stand and we’d have gotten manslaughter and 15 years.

Lol no.

A defendant testifying almost always ends favorably for the prosecution.

Maybe the defense could have done a little more but they had a terrible case to work with. Their best angle would have been to beg for a plea deal.

When the boat is leaking you don't drill more holes. It was just going to get worse (you put your strongest witnesses first and they were shredded).

man does it look like his attorney fricked him.

Inclined to think ‘Melo listened to advice of counsel as well as he listened to someone telling him to get the frick outta that tent.

Nobody appointed to try a high profile murder case in that county got any doubt what the outcome would be here.

Who knows what they offered, if anything.

Dude might be looking at the best he would ever do. Might have come out ahead, we just dont know. Details might come out at some point.

Obviously the Karmelo Anthony lawyers were aiming to get the manslaughter charge

But 35 years, out in parole in 18 years is not bad for a convicted felon. Out by 36 and can still have a family.

He'll be 35 with a murder conviction and maybe not even a high school diploma. I can't imagine the rest of his life will be enviable unless he truly becomes good, which is also a positive outcome in the grander scheme.

Most likely he commits another crime against an innocent person because he’s now a hardened prisoner on top of having no impulse control and violent tendencies.

I wonder how someone who can't even handle another guy telling them to leave a tent, will handle prison?

He’s sheltered. He thought he was a gangster in white suburbia and is about to get humbled as frick. He’s going to be a meek field mouse in prison.

He’s was a murderer. The entire school board should resign in embarrassment.

I have only read it in one place and not sure of the accuracy, but I read the school board didn’t exactly make it easy for a honorary diploma to get handed out during what would have been Austin’s graduation.

It was eventually allowed and happened (last month), but it seemed like they had to jump thru a couple of hoops and less than Karmelo even though district policy states Karmelo’s situation could have it withheld. Honoring a student who passed away seems like a fairly common thing, so if true I can only assume they were concerned about racial BS getting inflamed.

How is murder generally not automatically a nice sentence?

Yes this would be automatic life without parole in Louisiana. 35 with a chance of parole is weak. What a pussy jury. White people are so fricking embarrassing. Everyone knows that a black jury sentencing a white boy would’ve given the max.

even with parole was THAT light of a sentence. I think it was just right. His prime years are going to be spent behind bars and this does effectively ruin his life. Which it should, because he killed someone.

So awesome texas will probably release someone with a ruined life and zero legitimate prospects onto an unsuspecting public in about 20 years. Sure that will go great.

He’s also related to some notable football player from LSU. Andre Anthony.

Any protest tonight?

I think the defense just might have tried a hail Mary with a desperate panic shite 2 to 22 years they were trying to get, and it was signed off on by the District Attorney and I'm sure the victim's family so that had to be something that was talked about for a while

Defense might have known it was a shite case

Ok, Mr. Woo. What is he 17-18? 17+17=34. 17+18=35. Big fricking deal, so he gets out mid-30s, doesn’t make a big helluva difference.

I wouldn't go that far. AM is dead forever, this kid should have gotten 50 years minimum before chance of parole.

Yea I thought at minimum he’d get 50 years. 35 is a fricking joke for outright murdering someone.

You give a second chance to people that are truly remorseful and want to better themselves. Not to cold blooded murderers who show no remorse for their actions.

Not only that but did they think to give any money to the victims family? For their child murdering him ? Maybe pay for the funeral ?

Nah they went buy Escalades and moved into a mansion in a gated community with blood money for murdering whitey….

Other states have some wildly short murder penalties. In New York for example it’s possible to only get 15 for 2nd degree and 20 for 1st degree. In Louisiana it’s life in prison and death, respectively.
