If it’s 6 or more hours, i would rather fly.

I love having drinks at the airport and on the plane.

Way more relaxing

Do I need a car there, so I'd have to rent a car? What's parking like? How much time do I have off work, do I have that much time to spend driving? How much are flights? How many people going, more people usually is cheaper to drive.

I’ll fly for big vacations. We’re going to Spain this fall. I have no choice on that one. That’s about it.

I’m retiring in two years. I’m buying a new 2500 Ram and an Airstream. I’ll never fly again unless it’s to another continent.

Driving depends on where it’s at. Going from LA to Florida in all that traffic, stop and go, the danger of getting smoked from behind factors in. I’d rather drive 10 hours of open road then a 6 hour drive to Florida

Generally 7 hours is the cutoff.
New Orleans to Houston is the exception. I will just fly rather than deal with the bullshite of that trip on the interstate.

I would fly more often if I lived within an hour of a major airport. In Laws live outside Tulsa and can get cheap flights to some pretty good locations.

Eight hours. I am an hour and a half from the airport I usually travel from. So between that drive and an hour and a half before arrival I’d checking a bag, it takes three hours just to get to takeoff. Factor in delays and if there is a layover. Eight hours seems to be about all I care to drive. I do like being in control of the travel when driving. I do like someone else doing all the work when I fly. There are tradeoffs.

A lot depends on whether is is work or pleasure, too,

Stay off the interstate, I understand if you are driving with a purposed destination, but while on a 3 week NW camping trip on a back road in a maybe 500 person town in CO I found this:

I always thought Smokey was something made up, but he was a real bear cub rescued during a forest fire and lived with his rescuer while recovering and then lived out life in the national zoo in DC.

You can't beat that 45 minute flight time from BTR. Especially since BTR you can basically arrive minutes before boarding begins, and then there's no layover involved.

When we did it this summer, we were already arriving to the hotel downtown when we would have only been halfway at BEST in the car. And then since we drink on weekends away like we did, we'd have been spending $45/night to park the car and take it nowhere for 5 days.

Six hours or less, I’m driving. Takes me an hour to get to the airport, an hour to get to the gate (doesn’t usually take me that long but will about twice a year), another two hours to fly there (including being on the jetway), and then I have to leave the airport and get a rental car. That’s five hours right there, so what’s another hour with that pain in the arse? Plus I can dictate my own schedule unlike a flight.

Three hours or more and I generally fly. I travel weekly for business. Can still get things done versus always being the driver.

When traveling solo, the threshold for flying is very small. Its almost a given for flying if the time balances out. I would give large consideration to flying from BTR to Houston if I don't need my vehicle. It would just depend on flight price and the time of the flight.

Is it though? Maybe with kids. I can drive to MSY in 90 minutes, have a Bloody Mary or two, board the plane, take a nap, then arrive at my destination like zero time has passed. Flying is amazing.

Depends on if I need a vehicle or not when I get there. Most times I drive regardless of distance and fly the wife (no pics)/kids depending on who's on the trip. Omaha this year, I drove, they flew one way up and we all drove home.

No more so than fifteen fricking hours. frick that shite

For my wife and I, the tipping point is around six hours. If we have a good reason to drive (usually because there’s no other way to get around at our destination), we’ll drive up to about 8 hours. Any longer than that is always a flight. On the other end, anything below four hours is always a drive. Four to six hours is just based on how we’re feeling.

How has someone not posted it depends on long you're at the destination for?

Yea, I'll drive a good ways if I'm staying somewhere a week not a weekend.

Also depends if you live in a smaller city and either have to drive a ways to the large airport or connect vs. if you live in a metro and take an Uber then get on a non-stop

I’m normally a fly if it’s over a 5 or 6 hour drive.

I had to bring several fragile items to the DC area and return with several others items.

I went up last week and stopped in Asheville overnight at a relatives.

I drove back yesterday from DC, left there at 4:15 am local time, stopped for gas & to piss just south of Knoxville and got to NOLA at 6:30 pm.

1,085 miles in 15.25 hours with one stop.

So I CAN drive distances efficiently but I normally choose to fly if it’s over 400 miles away.
