Trans "woman" arrested for filming women in Target dressing room

Police in Ammon, Idaho, have arrested a transgender woman for allegedly filming a woman undressing in a Target changing room.

The East Idaho News reported that Shauna Smith, who was born Shaun Smith and is being charged with voyeurism under that name, allegedly poked an iPhone over a changing stall wall to record an 18-year-old woman who was trying on swimsuits.

The incident occurred Monday at the Target in Idaho Falls.

When the victim's mother confronted her, Smith fled the store. The mother and daughter both described the suspect as a white male who was wearing a dress and a blonde wig, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Smith was spotted leaving in a car, which police tracked to her residence.

According to the affidavit, Smith told deputies that she makes videos for "the same reason men look at pornography." She also admitted making other videos at Target.

In April, Target published a statement in support of the federal Equality Act and encouraged transgender people to use its bathrooms and changing rooms according to the gender to which they self-identify.

"Inclusivity is a core belief at Target. It's something we celebrate," the corporation stated. "We stand for equality and equity, and strive to make our guests and team members feel accepted, respected and welcomed in our stores and workplaces every day."
