Seems like you're getting a lot of grief but I feel where you're coming from.

I love dogs but don't have one of my own. Having the ability to take off on a trip at the drop of a hat is the number one reason. Other reasons are, vet bills, food cost, hair, chances of getting a shitty dog and I live alone and it would be unfair to leave a dog all alone when I'm at work. They are just simply a lot of hassle. That fact can't be argued.

If I get dog-sick I go visit my Bil and sister who have 5 large dogs. One is deaf and will snap at other dogs, one is scared of everything but loves me and I love her, one is chill AF, one is still new pup but seems cool, the last is a total insane bitch catahoula who is at my sisters side at all times but I wish it would just die.

Bingo.

You don't sound like you even understand dogs.

You sound like a cat person. Check with your boyfriend, and maybe you can pick out the cat together after a trip to Starbucks for skinny lattes.

A friend of mine, two of his kids are close in age. They are 14 and 15 years old. Last Spring the lady across the street from them asked if they would be willing to go over to her house to feed her dog and let him out to play for 4 days. She would pay them.

They were more than happy to do so. A few weeks later the neighbors on side of her called them, then the lady was going somewhere again and she ended up giving them double of what she paid last time. So since then they have been picking up other people in their neighborhood. By the end of the summer they were getting calls from people not in their neighborhood and with school starting an all, they were not able to do it, but you can find responsible people to come take care of them.

You should not own a dog. I will never be without one and have never had a dog so any of the things you described (except shedding).

Please never get a dog, you need a cat or nothing.

Yes, got a inside dog one time and couldn't stand having one living in the house. My bad for allowing the wife to talk me into it.

Like dogs, but prefer them to stay outside.

What kind of undisciplined, shite dog did you have? I have two and neither has ever had an accident and they don't go around attacking other dogs. My Aussie will take care of varmints of the possum size or larger and venomous snakes.

I will never regret having my dogs. They have a dog door, big fenced yard and auto feeders and waterers. I can leave for a week when I want and their lives don’t change other than seeing me for a week.

I have had dogs all my life. Can’t imagine not having one for the rest of my life. I get far more from them than they get from me. My current golden has cancer and I am preparing to say goodby. Hurts already.

I took this straight from your OP.

That is training.

Also, shedding doesn't "destroy your house", buy a vacuum and learn how to use it. If it is destroying things in the house, you guessed it, that's also improper training.

Dude, you need a cat or a fish maybe.

We have 3 dogs, 2 labs and 1 mixed lab. I cannot imagine life without dogs. As a bonus they keep the leave out of the pool, "Tree fetch". Keep my recliner warm for me, pick up any and all dropped food. When I was really down with Covid last year they laid in the bed with me watching TV and keeping me warm. Also, if given the chance they will prewash all dishes in the dishwasher.
