OP is a broken human. Look at this little destructive bitch here. We rescued her from a friend's coworker who had to move in with her elderly mother and could not keep her.
Sadie Charles has been my best buddy for almost 2 yrs now.
FYI: She's got 10 titties too. That's pretty cool. Most dogs have 8. More ya know.

I was just gifted two GSDs by some fricker who dumped them by my house. First time I’ve owned nice shepherds. They’ve been a lot of fun. But they’re two of the busiest dogs I’ve ever seen. Holy shite! They never stop moving.

My labs are 10. When they die it will be hard on me. I will never wish that I didn't have them though.
However, I will be in no rush to replace them.

My old dog has fecal incontinence and shits all over everything.
And I still prefer him to most of the people I know.

I had serious reservations getting my daughter a dog for Christmas. I've never been a dog person (small dogs are the devils rats) and I didn't want it trashing my stuff. We went to a shelter on Christmas Eve and my daughter picked the most hyper dog around. Great.
Long story short, for free, I got a neutered male dog who was properly kennel and indoor trained. His only issues are he is way to territorial, even for a nutless wonder. Now...he's the family dog. Part of the family. Great dog. Very obedient and protective. Loves to jump in the truck to go for a ride. Loves to go for a morning run. Loves to see you when you get home and is sad to see you leave.
Nothing about having a dog is like parenthood. Your kids are fully thinking, feeling, talking individuals. They can disagree & argue. A pet...can't. It's solely dependent on you for everything. Your kids can develop and leave you eventually. Your dog isn't going off to college. It's going to be by your side until you or it dies. On a complexity level it's way below Parenthood, but it's a simple & unbreakable bond that humans need.

Not giving human emotions to a dog, but dogs do have emotions and there are countless instances where dogs give their life protecting their human owner or family member. That’s a pretty big selfless act that shows what that person means to the dog.

I like dogs. I like the idea of having a dog. But the reality is that I don't want to walk the mutt, clean up after him, vacuum up his shedding hair, smell his musk and farts, and waste money on a vet. So I don't have one. I enjoy other people's dogs though.

If you regret having a dog, I don't want to be your friend. That's simply my opinion. Dogs are way better than people. Again, simply my opinion.

I have a dog and a cat. Dog was left by my ex wife. The cat was a single-dad-guilt purchase for my daughter. The dog is a good dog but it sheds incessantly. Its actually disgusting when my Roomba misses a day. The cat is the most disgusting and ill-tempered creature ive ever been around. I wish I knew how to get rid of it

Amen. I’m about as big a dog person as you’ll find, but I hate equating parenting to dog ownership. It’s a dog, not a kid.

I think you're on to something on the family imitation of 20 something dog owners.
But that doesn't mean having a dog isn't great. Dogs are great, they just shouldn't be substitutes for starting a family.

Ours is 2.5 and has a seemingly endless supply of energy. 2 long walks a day plus unlimited time running around in the yard and he still wants to go go go

I’ve had labs for over 30 years. Most were from bad marriage s . All were great dogs. Yes they can be a pain in the arse at times, but their on conditional love is truly god given.
