Lidl is the best of the three.

Went to Trader Joe's once on Veterans, and the place was a damn madhouse. Like I thought there was a riot going on.
I really like Trader Joes if I'm ever driving out in the suburbs to stock up on lots of the frozen meals, breads and staples.
In Brooklyn though, there can be lines of over 100 people outside at times.

There are about a half dozen items (apart from liquor/wine) that I buy at Trader Joe's. Aldi's is more like a small but upscale neighborhood grocery, with zero customer service. There is nothing I've found at Aldi's that is spectacular, but I'll stop there for basics.
At Trader Joe's, the workers are all purple hairs and nose-rings, but on average they are super helpful. If you find an old person working there, ask them what the favorite items are. They'll walk you to them and typically open the package for you to try (I've had that happen multiple times).
Aldi locks the buggies with those quarter deposit contraptions. They don't supply grocery bags (which annoys me)-but you can buy them.

Aldi is the bastard son of Trader Joe's and Dollar General.
I love Trader Joe's, hate Aldi.

Trader Joe's for fun unnecessary grocery items, like organic fruits and prepared meals.
Aldi for basic baseline groceries, like bread, cereals, and canned goods.
Kroger/Brookshire's/Walmart for the rest, like produce and meats.
Sometimes Aldi meat is great. Their birria pot roast is awesome.

Aldi is dog shite.

Aldi is great for what it is. Don't expect 20 kinds of ketchup. Having fewer choices means can get it and out faster. The cheese selection is really good.
Comparison of Aldi to TJ is like comparing Walmart to dollar general. Be lucky if one is near you

i'm fricking jim jones level of aldi cultness.
the fact almost everything they sell is based off european food ingredient standards was enough for me.
$1.50 for a box of cereal with no corn syrup or artificial colors or dyes or GMO grain?? pass me a glass of fricking kool-aid.

Aldi has a version of Dave's Killer Bread at half the price and I swear it is better.
They sell a lot of house branded products but also some name brand things... For example Duke's is cheaper than WM

yeah their bread aisle is legit. so many good things to choose from.
i like the cheese selections and the salami and other cured meats.
i swear aldi is the anti-costco.

felt like we were spending $600+ every time we hit costco and i swear i have no idea where all that shite went later.
aldi is quick easy, and you know what you're going to find there. potatoes for $3/bag, coconut water for 99 cents and occasionally a random mandolin on the 'fun' aisle that causes your wife to end up at the ER 3 hours later holding a piece of her finger

I don’t see the appeal of Trader Joe’s. It also looks like they only hire hipster douchebags.

aldi is just staples: veggies, bread, cheese, dairy, wine & i go to publix or somewhere else for meat.

Regardless, their selection of food and booze are top notch. And their flowers? I got my wife flowers from there at least once a week when that was on my route

I've never stepped foot into an aldi's bc we use instacart but 4 or 5 weeks ago I made 2 identical carts on there: one for Albertsons (which was our normal grocery) and one for Aldi which we had never used up to that point. A week's worth of groceries for a family of 5 - the Aldi cart was $80 cheaper. 80 fricking dollars. So we made the switch and havent looked back. We've enjoyed just about everything we've tried. As someone else said - the healthier ingredients on shite like cereal was a nice bonus to it all.

Same family, two different types of stores
(same weird UPC's for both)

The Fat Electrician has a great video on Aldi.
Aldi is designed in a way that you walk in and you're immediately faced with product. They want you to walk through quickly, get what you need, and get out.
Most supermarkets want you in their store for as long as possible. Aldi wants as many people walking through their store as quickly as possible.

Mid afternoon, the one on Perkins and Acadian, in Baton Rouge, has many 20's hot women. My guess is LSU sorority gals and grad students, in yoga pants. The yoga pants store is across the parking lot.
Weekends, mostly dried up fat older hippie women types.

Trader Joe's is owned by Aldi.
