Mississippi Man Arrested Following Kidnapping Of Girlfriend While On Vacation December 11, 2023
Outstanding coordination today between North Precinct officers and Domestic Violence detectives led to the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, 23, of Mississippi, following the kidnapping and brutal beating of his 22-year-old girlfriend early this morning. The victim’s family called from out of state advising dispatchers she called them screaming, afraid that her boyfriend may kill her....

Looks like dude went to St. Patrick's on the Coast and then to the private Millsaps College. Both seemed to have come from affluent families.

Judge Cheryl Blackburn

Nashville defense attorneys have taken the extraordinary step of challenging the competency of longtime Criminal Court Judge Cheryl Blackburn. Nearly three years after the judge suffered a stroke at the courthouse, the legal filings bring into partial public view what had increasingly been the subject of hushed courthouse chatter.

“I sat in the courtroom in Nashville and told the judge that if they let him out, he was going to kill her,” Lance Johansen said. “He had assaulted her — this was probably the fifth or sixth time where they would get into a fight and he would beat her. We would get her away from him for a while, but he would find a way to weasel back in it.”
According to the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office, which serves Nashville, Rivers’ bond was originally set at $250,000. After sitting in jail for seven months, his bond was reduced to just $150,000.
Stephen Hayslip with the DA’s office told WLOX News, “Our office opposed the reduced bond set by the Criminal Court Judge Cheryl Blackburn.”
As part of an agreement with Rivers’ defense attorney, Lance Johansen said that the family was to be contacted if there were any changes to Rivers’ status, and he was supposed to be fitted with a GPS ankle monitor. That did not happen.
“They let him out and didn’t tell us, and didn’t put the ankle monitor on him. They just let him walk out of jail,” Johansen said.
The following Monday, July 1, Johansen received a voicemail from the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office warning him about Rivers’ release and that he wasn’t being tracked.
Johansen said that he called his daughter but she did not answer. When she texted him, it “didn’t really look like the way she talks.”
Early Tuesday morning, Johansen said he woke up around 4 a.m. and received a notification that his daughter’s Life360 Tracker was turned off. Then, he received a call from his younger daughter who was living with Lauren. She said that Lauren was not home, the front door was left open, and their security camera was destroyed.
The family contacted Hattiesburg Police Department to file a missing person report.
“When I got up there in the morning, I called to see what [Hattiesburg Police] found overnight. There was no communication. They didn’t do anything. We assumed they were going to track the vehicle and try to find her, but they never did it until Wednesday at 3 o’clock when I insisted they find out where the car was.”
Police tracked Lauren’s vehicle through OnStar. When it pinged in Harrison County, they called Lance Johansen.
“I knew she was dead,” he said. “When we got there, her car was in the middle of the cemetery and she was in the back of the car wrapped up in sheets and trash bags. She was basically beaten to death. Her face was smashed in, her head was smashed in, she was brutally beaten to the point she couldn’t see out of either eye when she finally died and there was multiple holes in her head. I helped the coroner lift her body out of the car. It was just mutilated.”
Man, I can't imagine

After reading that I’d kill his and the judges entire family while making them watch. Then kill those two as slow and painfully as possible.

Nearly three years after the judge suffered a stroke at the courthouse, the legal filings bring into partial public view what had increasingly been the subject of hushed courthouse chatter.
The Banner has learned of multiple motions related to Blackburn’s capacity that have been filed under seal. However, one motion filed publicly in a felony assault case on Wednesday shed some light on the doubts being raised about her ability to oversee serious criminal cases.
Nashville defense attorney Kevin Kelly filed the motion seeking a postponement of his client’s trial so that he could research his client’s “constitutional rights to have this trial heard by a Judge who is competent to rule on issues related to this trial.” Kelly goes on to cite “this Honorable Court’s recent recusal and transfer in an unrelated case that was granted in response to a motion calling the Court’s competency into question.”

Wow. Complete negligence. The judge, DA, and police got her killed. Her poor father. He sounds very calculated and angry.

I am all for shitting on incompetent (or complicit) DAs, but it absolutely sounds like they have clean hands in this one. None of what should have been done by the jail was done that would have allowed monitoring (and fir her family ti be warned).

Knowing him personally, very calculated and methodical. Big game hunter too. He’s got a massive room in his house, dedicated to his trophies. The biggest being a Himalayan brown bear (if I’m not mistaken). I say that because I guarantee you that judge and DA are squarely in his crosshairs and Dr. Johansen doesn’t miss.
