I considered getting one when I took a new job with an hour drive each way but I bought a TDI Jetta instead and I’m getting about 53 mpg and don’t have to drive around in something as ugly.

They are ugly for sure

I will say the Prius is a great UberX car (for riders).

You drive a Jetta You don't get to throw shade at a vehicle's looks.

It’s not a classic by any means! But it just blends in like a normal sedan

Gas prices and the move to small SUV’s is hurting the Prius more than anything

Bigger sedans like the Maxima, Impala, and Avalon are likely in their last generation. The Taurus and LaCrosse have already been scheduled for cancelation. The Hyundai Azera and Chrysler 200 were canceled last year.

All of the larger car companies are investing in crossover SUVs. The RAV4 has just been redesigned (it’s a very nice vehicle now). This is what the buying public wants. Brands like GMC, Jeep, and Toyota that have a lot of SUVs and crossovers are going to do well in at least the short term future.

It’s a sign of the times.

Chevrolet’s best selling non-pickup vehicle is the Equinox crossover. The RAV4 is now more popular than than Camry. Mazda’s most popular vehicle is the CX-5 crossover.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Nissan Rogue and Honda CR-V outsell the Altima and Accord next year. Ford’s Escape is probably pretty close to overtaking the Fusion in sales if it hasn’t already.

By the end of 2019, Lexus, Buick, Lincoln, Mercedes- Benz, and Cadillac will have more crossover/SUV models than sedans.

Everyone is also trying to consolidate their remaining sedans onto the same chassis as their crossovers to streamline production. Camry, Corolla, Avalon, and RAV4 are all on the same chassis. Ford’s Explorer, Continental, Taurus, and new Aviator are all basically the same thing under the sheetmetal. General Motors is aiming to reduce the number of unique platforms from 8 down to 4 by 2023.

My wife used to have a pretty far commute, so I bought her one. It's simply for convenience. We really don't give a shite whether it's good for the environment or not. The gas mileage is simply incredible. We've also enjoyed driving it for our vacations, or visiting the in laws. No fricks if the OT approves or not.

People are not buying them because they are tired of driving 68 in the fast lane.

Yep. I had a prius and lost it in the flood. I have a long commute and I miss the 540 miles on 10 gallons. I was the only one to ever ride in it and it got me from A to B for work which was its only purpose for us. Not ashamed at all.

t's served it's purpose. It showed that hybrid tech is viable for a mainstream offering, and gave them a testbed to develop it to implement it into more conventional models.

Yes, it did.

You can get almost the same MPG in the larger and less dorky looking Camry hybrid

Yep...there used to be a significant difference in the Prius vs the Camry Hybrid mpg. Now, there isn't much difference, however, the Prius is still ~5K cheaper than the Camry Hybrid.

My problem is the even cheaper altima will do 45 mpg on the hwy. And it has a little get up and go if needed.

The new Altimas are really cool looking.

I wish they didn’t have a CVT though.

That's all well and good if you have a long arse commute and only drive on the highway.

But where hybrids shine and annihilate their gas counterparts is in city driving.

I do.

And I'm content with my 11mpg armored 4x4.

Because this morning when everyone else couldn't get down our road to actually get to work, I just drove over all of the down trees or ditches.

I really don't understand the total move away from Sedans by car companies. I don't think its going to last. Maybe its not hard to move back I don't know? But gas prices will bump up again and SUV's will go out of style.

But I also think companies like Tesla show that you can have an environmentally friendly vehicle that looks good also.

This is why the Prius V, Camry hybrid, and Escape hybrid are extremely popular taxis in Chicago, NYC, and Toronto now that the Crown Vic is gone.

They get excellent mileage in stop and go traffic.

Unfortunately that doesn’t make the cab drivers any better. Just makes them more efficient.
