well, in all fairness, you can go to Lafayette and find creole/cajun food just as good if not better than NOLA. The cities around it have good food too. So I don't think NOLA has an exclusive on dining. Its top tier no doubt, but I think civic pride and sentimentality is blinding you to the realities that others see when it comes to being honest about New Orleans.

I'd venture to say that most people who visit New Orleans for the first time leave disappointed.
I highly doubt that bud. If that were the case, then it wouldnt be one of the most popular tourist cities in the world, nor would so many people come back.

The food and restaurant scene in Las Vegas is equal to or better than New Orleans. The customer service in Vegas blows away what you receive in NOLA. Quite certain there are more activities/entertainment available at a fraction of the risk in Sin City, too.
LV does have incredible venues, but the reason why LV typically isn't listed is that many of the restaurants there are shoot-off locations of established restaurants in places like NY, SF, Chicago and NOLA, and it is a heavily manufactured and superficial foodscene. Nothing organic (not in the way you're thinking) about it and its extremely overpriced.
That's typically why a place like NOLA is often listed above it, because of the food heritage and "realness" of the scene.

I could say that your irrational hate is blinding you from saying NOLA is in a league of it's own, ESPECIALLY IN LOUISIANA, when it comes to dining and it's really not even debatable.

Never been to Pittsburgh but it looks like a cool town.
I've been a few times and have always been advised to stay as far away from downtown as possible...the outskirts are a dump, the scenery around the Ohio River is pretty nice but other than the Steelers I'm not sure what Pittsburgh has to offer.

don't think it's wise to argue on a site dedicated to LA about whether or not NOLA is elite with regard to food.
Besides, who cares what randoms on a message board say at the end of the day
I mean look, like I said, NOLA can be a shithole for a lot of reasons. And it is, as much as I love the city and will probably never leave.
But food? GTFO with that. its one of the only things we have going for us right now. There are young chefs leaving NYC to open up places in NOLA. Even Bourdain has commented on this. The NOLA food scene is killing it right now, but we are probably about to see the bubble burst.

That is a mile or so away. This is the 1600 block.
I still see lots of bars on doors and windows. That's always a sign of a troubled neighborhood for me.

Cajun yes, creole nah. But regardless, who cares? I never eat cajun or creole food except on very seldom occasions.
You do realize that there are other foods than that...right?

Vegas is a solid food city (really strong at the few top shelf restaurants I have been able to find). At or equal to Nola, I haven't experienced it. Outside of NYC or Paris, Nola is hard to top when it comes to the sheer number of top shelf restaurants. When you add music, nightlife, festivals, convention space, and sporting events...it is still an elite city imo. Does it have major issues, yes- but so do most (all?) elite cities in my experience.

It does indeed. I think where they fall back to the pack though is once you get away from the top 20 to 30 places it starts to fall pretty fast as far as quality places.
And damn is it expensive.

No offense but if you can't trust the 1600 block of North Johnson Street in New Orleans what can you trust as far as being safe in New Orleans? I'm glad the Bunker Hill area in New Orleans East is insulated from all this violence otherwise I would have to reconsider living here.

New Orleans needs a mayor who will implement broken windows policing like Rudy Guiliani did with New York in the late 90s and early 2000s and the city improved as a result.
The mayor has to start cracking the whip on the undesirable elements of town. And Mitch Landrieu is sure as shite not going to do that so new leadership is needed.

Las Vegas is so generic. Hate to sound cliché, but it doesn't have 1/10th the "culcha" of New Orleans (and I'm not talking about black people)

I agree, but that Mayor would never get elected, would never get re-elected, and would be accused of the most vile things imaginable.
Our problems go much deeper than that too. But it would be a nice start.

yea, there's more to a city's dining scene than just the food per se. Call me crazy, but I'd rather have a nice meal in a historic neighborhood than a nice (substantially overpriced) meal in a casino resort.

Things are going to have to get worse before they can get better. Nola is going to have go to complete shite and their economy cratering before people start rethinking their leadership.
The city is starting down the barrel of suffering the same fate as Detroit and they're getting close to it. Drastic measures are needed right now to ensure law and order.

and its extremely overpriced.
This is the OT, right? Price matters?
Seriously, though, you may have a point about NOLA's food being more "organic" (by this I assume you mean originating or acquired in the South La region). However, that does not make up for the overall dining experience. I can't recall the last time I had a bad experience in Vegas customer service-wise - restaurant or hotel. Say what you want about Vegas, but they have customer service down to an art. And there are dozens of top notch restaurants of every price point all over Vegas.

Some of the best food in this state can be had at bars and gas stations. Maybe I'm weird, but presentation doesn't mean jack shite to me. I don't want my okay food to look like an artist painted it. I'd rather it look like slop and taste like heaven.
