We wonder the same. What kind of person would do this to a loved one or the loved one's parents?
As a husband I can not fathom my wife's remains meaning nothing to me. Even if I had moved on. I'd call you to take them.
As a parent, if my son lost a wife and had moved on I'd call you before I saw those remains in a garage.
Makes no sense, but grief makes people do crazy shite. Least that is what I'd tell myself in regards to your daughter in law.
Try your best to find joy again. This death has of course forever changed your life. Don't let it define your life.
Very sorry.

So sorry for your loss. My sons are 28, 18, 17. Catholic school all the way. I can't imagine what you have gone through, but I understand your desire for proper Catholic burial. I know a tender wound has been reopened. I pray that God's healing power comes to you now, more than ever, knowing your son is home.

So sorry for this having happened. Please seek out a Grief Group to help your wife. I can barely imagin what she's feeling and the only thing I know is that finding an empathetic group, maybe through your church or an adjacent parish, might help.

I feel for you man, I lost a week old son 15 years ago and the pain never leaves. My three other kids are my life and I fear everyday that one of them dies because I know it can easily be a reality.

you and your family are in my prayers tonight. The whole thing about your son's remains sounds so damn strange that I have to believe that his wife certainly did not mean to disrespect anyone...sounds like she had better intentions and just got behind the game and didn't know how to fix things.
I hope the two of you can find some comfort and closure after the emotions of all of this settle out a bit...

True words.
The old me would be furious. The new me tries to understand and make the best of a bad situation.
As stated, our love for our daughter in law is never ending. We just can't get our heads wrapped around it.
Anyway, his long awaited proper Catholic funeral will be held for close family and friends. This is, perhaps, the last thing I can do for my son. Just hope my wife hangs in there. She is suffering.

Rough stuff. I have two young boys and can’t fathom your loss. Very sorry you are going through this.
Praying for you and your wife. Lean on each other for strength.

There are a few posters on the OT who have shared the loss of their children. Hopefully, they'll stop by this thread and reach out.

one thing that I learned a long time ago is that harboring hatred for someone is honestly a lot worse on you than it is on them...they forget pretty quickly while you spend a lot of time and energy keeping yourself mad.

Some 3 years later, wife gets a phone call and it is revealed that his wife sent the remains (her)home to Mandeville when she decided to carry on with her life. Remains havd been in a box in a garage in her parents home in Mandeville for 2 frickin years!

Your sons wife sounds like a total fricking bitch. Best wishes to y’all. I hope I never have to bury a child.

I wouldn't give any fricks about her or her emotions with her lack of respect for someone she supposedly loved.

That's harsh man.

I'm not sure what part of the state you're in but as a fellow Catholic, I'd be honored to serve at the Mass or lead a rosary for your family.

I'd give my wife some leniency to act like a loon in my passing. Actions don't always accurately reflect what people actually feel, especially in times of great stress.

Really sorry. You're in my thoughts. Celebrate his life. Remember the good times. I've never lost a child, but I always try to remember the good times with the loved ones I've lost. It's the only way I've been able to cope. Hang in there. I'm so sorry.

I don’t mean to be obtuse, but How hard is it? I hugged mine really tight after reading this. I hope you and your wife find peace.

His widow sounds cold hearted, but having never experienced that level of loss, I can't relate. She definitely should have sent the remains to you, rather than toss them in the garage like a piece of junk. I'm pretty disgusted. I'm sorry you're dealing with that and I hope that you can now have peace knowing your son is in his final resting place.
