Somebody would be getting poop in a box mailed to them for several years.

Sorry for the emotional rollercoaster.

Beyond messed up for the widow to not consider giving his parents his remains when she decides to move on.

I hope peace and comfort find both you and your wife quickly.

His wife is obviously going through some crazy shite too. Just do what you would like with the ashes and don't make a stink out of it.

This is probably the worst thing I have ever read on the OT. Prayers to you and your family and I hope you can find peace and closure in this difficult time.

While her actions are unexplainable I'd be even more pissed/hurt by her parents assuming they knew.

Either way it is disgusting.

Sorry for your loss

His wife was good to him and for him. We loved her like a daughter. Just cannot believe what my dear wife has had to endure.

Good advice which I follow whatever the time of day or night I make it home (10 minutes ago in this case). Can't possibly imagine the loss and pain you are going through--especially having to deal with the memories all over again. Prayers sent.

What his wife did is weird and not something any of us will be able to understand. But do keep in mind, she lost her husband just like you lost your son. Sometimes people do things we can't understand when they are overcome by grief. It won't help anyone to be mad at her

This is literally a nightmare for me (in your sons shoes, but I guess as a father as well). I expect my wife to be happy again. I expect my son to have a father figure if I'm not there. But I expect her to love and respect me forever and for my son to know who I am and that I loved him more than anything. Storage unit isnt that type of ace.

I'm glad your son is back with you and will rest where he will be loved and remembered. I'm sure she had no ill intentions in her actions and it's not been easy for her, but such a tough way to deal with this.

I've watched my parents deal with the loss of my brother the last 5 years. It sucks because it has been extremely hard on my mom. She aged 10 years in 6 months. My dad just doesn't talk about it. My oldest brother doesn't talk about it much. I talk about him more than anyone else in the family. We were very close and were best friends.

I couldn't imagine being in your shoes, but you're doing what is right.

Not excusing her actions but the whole thing would have been overwhelming to the wife. She can’t think about it and can’t process it. So pass it off to her parents to figure it out.

So sorry for your loss. A funeral is the best thing you can do. Prayers sent.

I have two grown boys 26 & 29. I can’t imagine having to bury them. I get the cries even thinking about it. Bless you and your family.

I can't even imagine. Once when our daughter was 17 she "lost her mind" and ran away. She was gone for about 35 days before she made contact with us. I listened to my wife cry herself to sleep every night during that time.

God bless you and your family and be strong.

As a Father of 2 boys I can't imagine the void and the pain. It sounds like you raised I'm good and ambitious man.

His widow sounds disrespectful on the way she handled his memory. No one deserves to be disregarded when they lose their life, especially when they are a good person. They should rightfully be celebrated.

You'll be together again someday.

Thanks to all who responded, and to those who will. Your kind words of encouragement mean a lot to us (my wife just read the thread with me). We do not know what we may face in this life. We can only tackle obstacles with the knowledge that we still have so much in my remaining son, our beautiful grandchildren (2), and his friends (all of whom have been so supportive)

It will be good knowing our son has finally returned to rest in peace where he grew up, and where he is so loved.

We all do. I've lost a family member far too young as well. Just know your son is in a better place
