It sounds like bombs exploding right now. Something incredibly close to my house just got struck, power is currently out. I went from sound asleep to wide awake instantly.

I-12 is a dividing line.
IIRC from my childhood...
1085 drains in two directions. The north side drains (slowly) to the "baby" Tchefuncte. The south side drains towards a "creek" that flows towards Flower Estates through culverts under Hwy 21 emptying also into the baby Tchefuncte. In short, once that river is full, the water begins to back up.
As for Brester, it drains allllll the way to Bayou de Zaire, which flows into the Tchfuncte.
I get that the area is "flat," but the homes closer to these creeks should be built with their geographic location in mind. Jake88 seems fortunate in this regard. It doesn't help all of the good people dealing with this insanity (my apologies Champagne).

We had about 10” in Hahnville (St. Charles Parish) in about 2.5 hours. In 17 years here, I’ve never seen water in the streets that high.
