If you are the type to drive until it's wheels fall off, then the Tacoma. It's proven to last 300,000 miles.
My previous company kept a lot of Chevy Silverado, Chevy Express, and Ford Econoline chassis trucks that long.

I bought my Taco 2 years ago and test drove a Colorado. I just liked the way the Taco drove and I really don't care for the Colorado styling. The Colorado was going to cost about $4k more than the Taco too. Taco is a much better looking truck IMO.

A Tacoma and a Colorado, while the same class size, are not even close to the same vehicle
Care to explain?

well for one, Chevrolet's are basically made from cardboard and chewing gum.

Looking to move down to a mid-sized truck from a Tundra.
If you want a good deal, go with a Nissan Frontier.
If you want something that rides and handles like a full sized truck, your best bet is the Colorado or Canyon. Bonus would be to get the diesel and enjoy the benefits of 29 MPG highway.

What flavor? Spearmint is a deal breaker

Wait a few months and get a new Ranger.

I just got the 17 Tacoma. Love it.
My only beef with it is the wind blows you around on the interstate.

I like the looks of both. The Tacoma forums are complaining of a lot of issues on the '16 Taco. Assuming because they are new.
I was really worried about all the negative talk on the tacoma forums, but I went ahead and got a 2016 model anyhow. I'm glad I did, I've had no problems with mine. I think the people on those forums are like the people on apple forums, they aren't happy unless they're unhappy.

New Truck - Colorado or Tacoma
I'd go with the Colorado or Canyon with the turbo diesel.

I just got a '17 Tacoma. Really nice ride

I got a Canyon two months ago. It's better than the current gen tacoma in most categories except the resale

So the consensus is there is no consensus

Never. Look at the resale value. Tacoma holds 82% of its initial cost at 60 months.
How is this even possible
Edit- it's not possible, I just looked it up and Tacoma's on average are worth about 61% of original value after 5 years, which is #1 amongst all cars. The GMC Canyon holds its value pretty well also.
