Fox showing a longer video from Kennedy center. Maybe I’m just seeing stuff but that helicopter didn’t look like it was maintaining altitude prior to the crash.

My buddy is a dc firefighter. Says there’s a massive response. Obviously. He’s not working today and is not being called in as of now.

I'm surprised some of those buildings are labeled on the map. You'd think they wouldn't want it to be public knowledge.

ATC recording
LiveATC.net captured it. Starts around the 16:45 mark…. you hear the controller ask Pat25 if they have the CRJ insight, unfortunately you can’t hear the response because the Blackhawk is probably on a UHF frequency, but given the controller responds “Pass behind the CRJ” I would guess the Blackhawk confirmed they did have them insight. At 17:45 you hear alarms in the background and an “ooohhh” then someone says “tower did you see that”. You can hear the intensity in his voice change from there.
Terrible situation…..but it sounds like the Blackhawk messed up.

The Class B extends a ways out form DCA for 20 miles surface to 10k and also surrounds Andrews AFB. I'm not familiar with DCA's ops but I'd be surprised if ATC wasn't normally in communication with those aircraft. Maybe the helo violated airspace, we don't know yet.

FYI, a friend just texted me after listening to the audio & said the helicopter was instructed to pass behind the CRJ.

Either a serious screw up or done on purpose. That helicopter is in the air way too long. And if you notice, it appears that it comes up to the plane before impact
