And that was their choice? Why is it that taxpayers should be responsible? Let me tell you. We struggled when the kids were young. Regular decent average paying jobs, not minimum wage jobs. Some weeks I wasn’t sure what we would do, but we made it. They never went hungry or without necessities. We sacrificed for parochial school, the mortgage was never late, and made it work. I look back now and make almost 4x as much and sometimes still feel like crap bc of our early days. But, SNAP isn’t going anywhere. It controls the masses. We have become a welfare state and it needs to stop. 1/2 of us support the other 1/2.

I understand this argument but still don’t agree with it. If you take the bus or guess less often you’ll buy more rice and beans in bulk and be more motivated to find better ways.

Hell maybe we figure out a way to mail / deliver rice and beans, but I’m sure that will be abused somehow.

You think the usual suspects on SNAP

Who are the usual suspects???… it’s crazy that most on this board for this because they think it’s hurting a certain group… the raw numbers tell us the group most affected by this is poor to lower middle class White Americans … that’s the MAGA base … cutting off your nose to spite your face…

ohhh a gotcha. i don’t care what their race/color/political side is, that list is egregious and gross. fact of the matter is, SNAP/EBT in this country needs to audited and limited to those severely in need and unable to contribute to society.

I grew up poor. When we ran out of real milk we had powdered milk.

We weren't necessarily poor but lived 45 minutes from the nearest decent grocery store. My mom and my grandmother both kept powdered milk on hand just in case we ran out of fresh milk.

The problem is not that items on the list, the problem is that we created a welfare state where a young woman can have five babies with five daddies and the state will give them Cash, food stamps, free housing, free internet, free phones, free food and she will collect checks from most of the daddies for 18 years. Oh, and most likely she will get free child care so she can not be bothered by her "jobs".

That system is not sustainable and we are lucky MORE don't abuse it.

I am not sure it is effective to restrict the items on the list, I think it would be more effective to put limitations the amount of time you can collect welfare while not being disabled.

Water is incredible to me. Here we stand, in the most developed economy the world has ever seen, and our poorest are spending their meager food allowances to buy water. What a country.

We need to go back to EBT aisle in the front of the store. And then only stock it it with powdered milk, rice, beans, canned tuna, and maybe spam.

Yes we do.

But, what are the chances of that happening in this Woke day and age?

What baffles me is that you can spend $100 on candy/soft drinks but you aren't allowed to buy an already baked chicken.

I am perfectly ok with food stamps covering coffee and dairy creamer. Coffee is cheap as shite.

Now, the high sugar creamers? Nah...

One of the most valuable lessons I learned in college was how to live on a budget .

Pizza/ beer only on a Friday or Saturday night.

Cheap used car.

Living in West Lavelle instead of a apartment.

It's a hell of a thing waiting in the check out line and the retard in front of you has an entire buggy full of check soda

Using speakerphone on their newest iphone model and loading the groceries into a newish vehicle.

ETA

And using cash to buy lotto tickets.

Has anyone ever given a reason why those things are allowable to purchase with our money?

SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

Nothing says nutrition like sugary drinks and ding dongs.
