Most of it is based on how fads drive the suburbanites to these places so they can show off on their social media that they're doing the thing that everyone wants to do.

But TopGolf is legitimately fun as shite and has pretty good food.

Probably because they’re a competitor and their research indicates they can outperform the competition.
This isn’t some fricking chain restaurant moving in against other chain restaurants.

Theres another Flordia based competitor called Swing Shack or something like that. I would not want to be in that captial intesive business with that much competition incoming.
Drive Shack? They were the ones building at the old Times Picayune site near downtown New Orleans. Don't know what's going on now since construction seemed to stop when all the covid lockdowns started.

I'm sure they are looking. Site selection is harder in New Orleans. I'd aim for Covington/Mandeville after Baton Rouge. Then probably Mobile, Gulfport, and Lafayette.
Slidell would probably be a good location. Close enough to draw people from New Orleans, Covington/Mandeville, and Gulfport/Biloxi areas without any other competition in those cities except NOLA assuming the Drive Shack project gets moving again

The correct answer should be the Northshore

Get all of Hammond/Mandeville/ Slidell to go to that one plus some baws from the Sip. And the baws in Denham/Walker will have their choice

Like I said, maybe it is a decent idea for Golf Suites if it is far and away better than TG (no idea) and can steal their business.

But as someone who is neither of them and who just lives in BR and hates seeing closed-down businesses, I don't love the idea.

Moving the new location a mile down the road is bold. Seems this would be a better idea on the other side of BR near Livingston

This seems like a bad idea...just saying, in the long run, a complex like this is not something you can just up and move if the land owner charges you out of your margins on the renewal....seems like it would definitely be better to find a way to purchase the property so you have an asset if it fails

Baton Rouge has to be the king of oversaturation.

One person opens a froyo place, then there’s one on every corner. Many are closed down now. One person opened a cupcake place, then theres 10. Almost all are closed down now. The current fad is “tea” places.

How and why would a city Baton Rouge’s size, who can hardly keep restaurants in business long term, need a second massive virtual golf facility?

Add poke to that list as well

Fair enough. On the other hand, if they can offer an improved experience for the patrons, it’s a great idea. Competition is usually a good thing. If a place gets run out of business, it was probably meant to happen.

Have you ever considered moving out of BR?

I've always wondered how successful one of these places would be if put within walking distance of Golden Nugget/Lauberge in LC.

Exactly, one of these would do great in Lafayette and New Orleans. Two in Baton Rouge makes no sense.

RIP caddy shack. Many good times there. And man that's not far AT ALL.

They should do it at the airport road exit in Slidell. Tear down that old mall and put one there. It would kill

I'm sure they are planning something. The climate in Louisiana is a lot better than in the places in the midwest where they have been opening locations. People could use this year round.

Weren't you one of the posters that swore that Top Golf would fail because there was no market in Baton Rouge?

My guess is that Top Golf has more staying power between the two of them. But I've never seen a Golf Suites before. Maybe it's better.

17 acres isn't something that's easy to open up in a place like New Orleans. These places tend to open near highways, and Lafayette seems to be growing in the opposite direction of I-10. Covington, Slidell, Hammond or Mandeville are probably a lot easier marks than new Orleans for this. Maybe even Jefferson Parish.

Dude, I don't remember what I posted yesterday. I have no fricking idea

I stumble on old threads sometimes and see posts I have no memory of.

I like Top Golf okay and it seems to do well, but I think 2 of the same place in a city BR's size (with our fickle population) right next to each other is iffy for sure.
