Many people fail to realize how crazy both Charleston and Greenville have gotten. The Greenville-Spartanburg metro area is 1.2mill (Greenville area is over 800k).

And Boise MSA is like 3x this.
For most cities, you really have to look at the metro area. For e.g., the Atlanta city limits population is only 450k and change, the MSA is nearing 6million (which doesn't even include areas I now consider super-suburbs--aka part of the CSA, which is 6.3mill and change).

I like Santa Fe too, but it is very far from a big city (unless you group it w Albuquerque).
City is 85kish and MSA is about 2x that (and includes some basically rural Mexico/Native American areas)

Spain is 100% Hispanic and they are doing fine.

The Hispanics of the 1700-1800s in Texas are now a minority among Hispanics. San Antonio was always Hispanic but it definitely wasn't always Mestizo/Mexican.
