I'm the father of one daughter.

My wife and I didn't really know if we wanted kids or not. Careers were good, my friends constantly complained about their kids for one reason or the other. Eventually, we got old enough that we felt we Had to make the decision, so we finally did it.

I think it's natural for men to want a son. Well, of course I was just a tad disappointed when I was told "it's a girl!" Shame on me.

What I got was a pretty little princess who has become smarter and maybe even wiser than her dad, and chock full of integrity. But that's not the point, let me get back to my point.

Young folks who may be in doubt... if you're remotely normal, a child will be the best thing you ever bring into your life. It's a love that can't be duplicated by lovers, toys, or career success.

Go for it! And happy Father's Day to all you men. Past, present, or future fathers.

You also say that as a man who was stable in his career finances and marriage it sounds like. I believe if you have all your ducks in a row marriage and kids can be great but because so many people push how great kids are people end up having them before they’re ready financially and maturity wise with over half the time the wrong partner. I’m not saying to not have kids but I don’t think as a society we should be so pushy about having them and how great they are.

It’s also a disservice to the child if you have them before your ready. My parents had me and my sister when they were both married in their late 20s and early 30s both had good jobs. We don’t need to encourage people who were still living with their own parents 5 years ago to pop out little ones imo they need more life experience

Having a child is hard but it is also one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. It's definitely worth it. I wouldn't trade my son for anything.

Sometimes people just shouldn’t procreate and that wise decision should be lauded.

I didn't grow up around kids so I was always iffy about them. My daughter turns 3 this summer and it's been way way more rewarding and fun than I imagined. Way more rewarding than any of my degrees, anything related to work, more than social life..on and on.

Agree OP. So many intangible benefits to be had with children.

If you have to ask whether you want kids or not, don’t do it. They are amazing (best thing ever for me), but it’s a full time commitment. Anyone that has any questions about it will be doing themselves and the potential child a huge favor by not having them.

We’re fast approaching 8 billion people on planet earth. At some point we will have to institute population control, else we’ll prove Soylent Green to have been a prophetic movie.

If financially then I agree. If memories and happiness they bring then I disagree as I would be bankrupt emotionally without them.

And, if you travel ball by age 6 then Braylon will be in the league by 20 and pay for retirement. If you travel soccer then Kaylee will be in the World Cup by age 16 and have a ton of endorsements. They’ll pay for your nursing home!

Kids aren't an investment.

If this is your perception, you're much better off not having any.

It’s true that you don’t understand what love is until you have a child.

100% agree.

Except for right now. I might trade him for a 30 minute nap, if I could have him back once I wake up.
