I too initially was against lowering the flag. As an American, I am totally opposed to the idea of a monarchy. But I realized, as others have explained, it is being done as a sign of respect to our closest ally.

It’s honestly the funeral for the Royal Family at large. The Royal Family died with her as far as I’m concerned, and I think Elizabeth was a fairly respectable historical figure honestly.

David Beckham stayed in line for over 12 hours to honor the Queen.
Good for Beckham. He could have definitely skipped the line, but he chose to be respectful. Nuts how long the lines are to honor her. Won’t see anything like this again in our lifetimes.

I look at the live video of the people paying their respects from time to time. It is truly amazing how many are staying lined up for so many hours. People in wheelchairs and with canes. People of all ages.
I caught her children standing vigil and then today I saw the grandchildren enter, stand and then leave. It's a neat tradition.
I read somewhere that at one point the lines were so long that they had to shut them down for about 6 hours to move it along for room for others to get in line. I think the article said the line had reached over 5 miles long.

I have nothing against Queen Elizabeth, but not a big fan of British funerals lasting 2 weeks.

The Brits lining up for 12 hours just proves that they are subjects and will never be free.
It is not even for a person with talent like Michael Jackson or Kobe. It is for an old woman who ate cake and waived to her peasants.

Yeah, but who is going to go to that one? No one is going to wait in line for 12 fricking hours to pay their respects to him. Again this is effectively the funeral for the Royal Family as a whole. No one gives a shite anymore. Elizabeth is an important historical figure, but the rest of them aren’t.
