The rescue shelters have literally been lifesavers for thousands of displaced people in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, but there has been some grousing over a disparity in the food served to the evacuees and the food served to the volunteers.

It seems there are bigger fish to fry, but we've been hearing some evacuees at the Convention Center complaining that they are served hot dogs, beans and chips, while the volunteers are getting pasta, rice, brownies, waffles and various beverages, included malts and shakes.

I'd rather have the hot dogs and chili.

What if the evacuees decided to help out and become volunteers...?

You can eat nothing and starve or eat TWO (2!) dogs, beans, chips, and a dessert. Don't like the hot dogs, go somewhere else.

Hot dog plate looks better.

Those aren't mushy weiners, either. They look like links.

I don't see any protein on the volunteer plate, unless that is hamburger helper.

Exactly, beats the shite out of MREs. I would have given my left nut for chili dogs during Rita.

So evacuees get, hopefully, more filling food like beans and hot dogs while the volunteers get carbs and some sugar to keep their energy up?

That seems to make sense.

The sense of entitlement is staggering. Shows how spoiled we really are as a country.

I call BS on this article but regardless the hot dog plate looks better than the carb overload one and I don't even like hot dogs.

Maybe these evacuees would rather the murder burgers and rape fries served in the superdome after Katrina?

first, when getting free food, shut your whore mouth and be grateful.

secondly, i'd imagine that volunteers have more of a need for higher carbs than evacuees in general.
