tip jars on a counter for someone handing you your order.

Before these new computer systems with the tip option, the tip jar was pretty standard at fast casual places. I prefer the tip jar.

I moonlighted at an events center for a few years. Honestly, these payment systems are evolving so fast that they just get away with fleecing their customers, and good luck making any money if you don't accept apple pay, or cashapp, or venmo. The days of a simple cash register or credit card swiper are done, and these new payment systems always cost the venue money for every transaction.

Well, then raise prices or adjust ingredients/portions or other operating costs. It’s called the cost of doing business.

Jesus this again?

It automatically is on there for every transaction I am sure. It’s fine to not leave another tip.

More likely scenario is that's just the default settings for the receipt printer that's attached to the payment system on their tablet register, and it has no way of communicating with whatever software they use to place online orders.

Sometimes this.

But I’ve also seen one where it said “additional tip” and recommended adds of 5-10%. So that’s not a glitch. That’s intentional.

Businesses have different ways of absorbing or passing on those costs. Personally I like the little sign that notates and extra 3.5% for card transactions. It's more honest.

Understood, but why is it automatically on there?

I can understand if you had the traditional tip denominations on their automatically. This is something different. What is the point?

He said it suggested an additional 2, 3 or 5 percent. What program independently would suggest a tip that small? If it were 2 seperate systems both would suggest 15, 18, 20, or 22%. It's purposeful, millennial.

I usually tip a dollar or 2 for pick up depending on the cashier. The girl at the Mi Padres on Bluebonnet drive through was so fine, I tipped 10%. Lol

It started as a tip automatically put on for. Stuff like pick up etc… make sure staff got a little something to get it all prepared.. then spread and is now becoming more common at sit down restaurants… if you ask they will say it goes to the back room staff like dishwashers food preparation guys that make minimum wage.. original guys did it to help offset minimum wage guys but said with inflation their profits margin was so tight they could not pay staff more…

It dies not go to tge waitstaff you normally see… idk when I see it I still tip the waitstaff the same since it does not go to them..

You’re directing your resentment towards the wrong group….

More likely explanation is selfish businessmen feeling empowered to pass off as much of their employee’s salary to the customer as you’re willing to be guilted into paying

I hate those. I feel like an arse for not putting down something, but I really don't want to because all they did was hand me something.

Those programs almost always populate 3 different pre-added tip percentages. Usually 15, 20, 25%. They can be changed.

Somebody from the kitchen may have decided to frick with the cashiers and drop them. It's not hard.

Entitled generations feeling entitled to as much of your money as you’re willing to be guilted into paying.

So entitled generations are now franchise owners and executive management ? How did they earn all that capital to be able to afford such entitlements?

Or are you suggesting those entitled kids working that low wage starter job hacked the system and reprogrammed it to give customers the option of increasing a tip the moment the customer is provided the final product?

So if the service was shitty but the meal was excently how does one go about tipping the cook?

Okay boomer.

Not a boomer. I know, for a fact, a POS system can be set up to control the tip settings. If it asks for an additional tip, it's on purpose.

I told you on the third reply. The point of sale system on the counter has no way of communicating with the app or internet browser you used to pay for your order. It doesn't know you tipped.

Based on this logic, the pizza joint only recommends a 5% tip.

Ohhhhhhh, okay. Sure sure sure sure sure.

The easiest explanation isn't that the app doesn't communicate perfectly with the P.O.S. It isn't that the tablet had an unexpected glitch. No reason other than another one of those damn greedy kids ruining the world.

This is why I call in the order. No tip line on the phone.
